I might go see this, this weekend based on some of these posts. I think I saw in the trailer that they have a gelatinous cube in it, which is my favorite D&D creature.
2nd Edition for life, by the way. Jungles of Chult baby!

This was a fun comedy-fantasy movie. Lots of great laughs. 2nd Edition was my favorite iteration as well. Used to read the rulebooks more than I played, but the monstrous compendiums were like watching a high fantasy version of animal planet in my mind. I saw they revived Spell Jammer recently. A mish mash movie relying heavily on Planescape and Spell Jammer elements would make for a good space opera/sword and planet film.

Saw it. Good, very much in spite of the fact that modern Wizards of the Coast is a clown car looking for dumpster fires to crash into. Too bad that the studio did it no favors putting out sandwiched between blockbusters.

It's pulled in 124 million in 9 days on a budget of 150 million so far.

It's pulled in 124 million in 9 days on a budget of 150 million so far. Add in marketing, it's going to need a good full month to be something close to profitable. Stunning how much it takes these days when something that'd be considered relatively successful would still need a good streaming deal to end up in the black. I think that's what happened with MST3K. They tried to do an internet exclusive series of episodes for a fee either per episode or a low triple digital figure for everything. Over the past month or so, I've been watching them on Pluto and Tubi for free. They must have needed an additional income stream.

Yeah, don't know what their marketing budget was but they may need something like 250 to 300 million to break even.

I will stick to this movie ( live action commercial ), only takes 1:45 of my life and reminds me of the 80's animated show.

You can really tell that who ever had their hands in making that commercial was a major fan of the cartoon- it was perfect in every way.

I think so too. Now for something a little different. The Japanese love their RPG's too apparently.

Across the Sea of Japan thinks might be a little different. 'China Box Office: Anime ‘Suzume’ Dominates as ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ and ’65’ Flop' 'Makoto Shinkai’s Japanese anime sensation Suzume held strong at the top of China’s box office over the weekend, earning $22.1 million while easily defeating Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Sony’s 65, which both flopped. Dungeons & Dragons and 65‘s disappointing results continue a streak of poor ticket sales by the Hollywood studios in China. Dungeons & Dragons debuted in fourth place to $5 million and 65 took only $600,000 (the films’ U.S. openings were $30 million and $12.5 million, respectively). As in the U.S., Dungeons & Dragons has been well received by Chinese critics and filmgoers, scoring 9.2/10 from leading ticketing service Maoyan. The poor sales performance will add to mounting business concerns about the Chinese audience’s shrinking interest in U.S. entertainment content.' www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/china-box-office-dungeons-dragons-65-flop-suzume-1235365768/To be fair some of D&D's poor performance in China might be the result of the current political tensions between Washington and Beijing. The movie itself seems 'kinda ok', might watch it later this week. I suppose if another country is critical of your nation you might not want to watch their movies. I can understand the sentiment of the Chinese if that regard, but it seems to be a very recent thing if that is the case, and this in spite of the case that so many Hollywood blockbusters are made to appeal to Chinese audiences. Not so good for Hollywood as they need that market to stay afloat.

Watched this with my dad on Paramount+ tonight. I nodded off a bit when they were getting the quest info to obtain the helmet, but other than that I thought it was a decent movie. But it was 45 minutes too long. This is a 90 minute movie at most.
My favorite part was the cameo of the kids from the 90's Dungeons and Dragons cartoon in the arena, that was a nice touch. I'm not a big D&D guy and know very little about the lore, but I did recognize Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter from my days reading PC gaming magazines.
The special effects really impressed me, though. Easily the best part of the movie, especially the magic. The dragons weren't very impressive.
Oh, and I liked the Coeurl looking creature in the arena.

A decent time waster but instantly forgettable. I watched it two weeks ago and I hardly remember anything.
