Have noticed a lot of articles and vlogs on this topic recently. Ben Cheah has an interesting take up on pulprev.com at present, and self published author Chris Fox has a vid up on youtube. Worth a look imho. This extract reminded me of Michael Moorcock's Dancers at the End of Time who used power rings, perhaps to control nano tech run by AI in cities that were growing increasingly old and senile. Magic had essentially become indistinguishable from science per A C Clark however.

The article covers a lot of topics I've been wondering about. And it is scary. The potential here is frighteningly massive. As always, the more I think I'm learning about it, the less I realise I know.
There's a lot to it, and in the end it might be like all good tools throughout history. Great in the right hands, devastating in the wrong ones.

Maybe it's just that I'm a luddite of sorts, but I have never found the concept of AI all that impressive, term such as AI seems to be misused all too often, most of what we call AI when it comes to decision making and automative responses is narrow focused, that is, the given system addressing a certain problem, for instance facial recognition or fraud detection, but nothing like humans with an entirety of knowledge of the world.
I know there are some impressive algorithms, maybe 'AI' chatbox and bots programmed to play games, and there is a rabbit hole when it comes to combining humans with so called AI, transhumanist discussions, a hot topic if they ever create a conspiracy thread on this forum ( locked after 3 pages of course ).

The most powerful supercomputer known to man is actually the subconscious mind - a million times more powerful than the conscious mind. It seems to me that the AI people are jumping the gun a little since not only would a genuine AI system require the holonomic properties of the human brain - but also decades of sophisticated interactive learning just like a human does. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holonomic_brain_theoryAnd this is only part of the picture. At present they are only learning how to program computers to simulate some of the symptoms of intelligence.
Just my 2c.

that is so true about the mind and I would know since I am sub conscious most of the time From what I've read most of us are mirrorthief. Apparently our subconscious minds are in charge of about 90% to 95% of our daily activity.

AI is a f*cking evil, and should be ignored. All that came out of it was pissing on artists of various fields, and I'm firmly against it. Some steps should remain restrained.

You're not alone in that opinion Blackheart, the general drift of it anyway. Apparently "Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, AI pioneer Yoshua Bengio and others have signed an open letter calling for a six-month pause of new AI chatbots more powerful than ChatGPT-4:" futureoflife.org/open-letter/pause-giant-ai-experiments/

the really big problem with writing is coming up with something that keeps the author motivated....I have lost interest not in writing but writing the stuff i was writing or trying to write anyhow....I will never bee a REH or Bradbury so I need to change my thinking about writing I have determined

So far AI cannot actually think and it's writing is plagiarism so I believe human authors have little to fear.
Well, most authors, anyhow . . .

I tried ordering pizza with AI taking the call...it was a total disaster and I eventually just gave up and went to Arbys
