Wow, you all aren't exaggerating about how bad the Wood run is. I'm half-way through and I'm not anxious to finish. He clearly doesn't know the character at all. Absolutely. The return to Cimmeria was plain embarrassing. I just re-read the earlier Cimmeria run with the Richard Corben artwork. Now, that was very good.

I was an apologist of Wood & Cloonan. That attitude lasted about 25 days. The moment I read issue #2, my hatred towards the team was immeasurable.
But we have to set the record straight: the reason why Dark Horse decided to make such a radical change to the series was because sales were poor. Stuff like Buffy was outselling Conan. "The road of kings" didn't do well. And we shouldn't forget that the movie did HUGE damage to the brand. That damage, by the way, still lasts. It's a shame because Momoa is, actually, a great choice for Conan. The problem was Marcus Nispel's direction and the original screenplay (I don't want to blame Sean Hood either).
What I'm trying to say is that it was a "damn if you do damn if you son't" kind of situation.
Now that Marvel has lost the rights, there is something I REALLY want: some kind of conclusion for the Dark Horse saga. Let Kurt Busiek to finish the story of Prince and Vizier. It was MORE than a framing device. Also, if would be cool if Truman does a PROPER adaptation of "Queen of the Black Coast".

I had the privilege of interviewing Kurt Busiek about his Conan run for an upcoming S&S magazine (as yet unannounced). When asked if there were any stories he wished he’d done before leaving the book, he cited “The Scarlet Citadel,” which was adapted by another team at Dark Horse.

Every few years, I need to vent my disappointment on the Wood run of Conan. For the guy in the video, the tipping point was when Conan cried over shooting a fawn. For me, it was the issue in which Conan got on his knees and begged Belit for forgiveness. This was already a turd of a run, but that point I gave up and told the lady at my LCS to take it off my pull list. Unfortunately, I had to get it for 3 more issues since she had ordered them months in advance. I still got the mini series, but eventually stopped getting those. They were a sore reminder of how great the monthly series used to be before they messed it all up.
