What I really don't like is that DH has developed a bad habit of 'diluting' the original REH Conan yarns. REH put all the necessary information there in each of his original Conan tales. When I read an adaptation, I expect to read an adaptation!

There's a thin line between developing and diluting. REH gave information that could be used to make additional stories to lead up to the adaptations. As I mentioned on another thread, the first 75 issues got it just about right. They went severely off track for several years and the past two or so have been trying to get it back there. Fred righted the writing end for Cullen to take over and the art is now back towards what it should be.

I think the problem is that a little too much additional information has been used recently in the actual adaptations.

Got it today. Decent ending to the story with a lot of solid art. Though I have to agree, the ninja assassins are out of place. But overall, we're in a much better place now

I haven't been going to the comic shop on a weekly basis for some time now, basically only when a Conan issue is out. That being said I still was a few weeks behind on getting this, but I did enjoy it. As Johnny said, it's a decent way to wrap up this arc. The ninjas didn't quite seem to fit in with the Hyborian Age, but it was kind of cool seeing Conan cutting through them.
If Oskana is the new Red Sonja/Janissa, that's not a bad idea. I wouldn't mind her coming back into Conan's life here and there during filler arcs.
The first arc was a huge improvement over the entire run of Conan: The Avenger, and it really echoes how much of a missed opportunity that series was. If only they had given Van Lente a suitable artist.

I'd like to see Roy Thomas develop Oksana for the new series with Tom Grindberg. Definitely better than creating another Red Sonja/Janissa or Dark Agnes.

I finished reading it and overall I found the series to be worth picking. The ninja attack in the end was not a good choice because it really feels out of place like others have mentioned in this forum. Cullen could have chosen another type of enemy more hyborean like to fight Conan. As for the art, I like it for the most part and think there are many many great panels everywhere but feel there are also some inconsistencies that take away from the final result like some character facial expressions that sometimes look great, but other times are awful. Davila is a good artist and if he strives to do his very best everytime he may end up being one of the best Conan artists in Dark Horse run, just like Nord and Giorello. I am looking for the next issue to check if inconsistencies are fixed. Best issue was # 3 in my opinion.

I liked it overall. Honestly wouldn't have minded Fred Van Lente staying if Davilla stayed too. Van Lente was a good writer for the most part.
