That's a bummer. Honestly if DH still has the license in 2023 they could easily do an epic 20th anniversary issue to wrap it all up

Yes , that was the plan. I'd corresponded with Roy about it a couple of months back but was unable to say anything about it before now. I know Roy is currently checking out where DH is up to in their Conan chronology in Slayer so looks like we'll have to wait awhile longer to see what happens next. Terry

Call me crazy but I'm actually glad they nixed that idea. Seems redundant at this point given the success of Red Sonja and I'm not a huge fan of retrofitting non-Conan REH yarns into Conan tales.
I hope they come up with something else, preferably an original tale.

I agree. sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
I think Roy should do Drums of Tombalku.

Have to agree. I might have been a good idea for, say, Savage Sword #240 or something like that, but we're not "there" any more. The Howard stories now stand on their own without having Conan escort them into the eyes of the general public.

I suspect the purpose to adapting Dark Agnes into the Hyborian Age had little to do with spotlighting REH's other work ... & more about giving Roy a fiery swordswoman to match wits & blades with Conan, since Dark Horse does not have the Red Sonja character licence.
It would have been interesting to see if Roy -- the sort-of "creator" of RS, based on REH's Sonya & maybe C.L. Moore's Jirel of Joiry -- could've captured that lightning in a bottle again, while also making Hyborian Agnes different enough to be her own character.
A little ironic too, since Thomas did "freely adapt" REH's Agnes story fragment "Mistress of Death" into the classic Sonja tale in SSOC #1.
I suspect Roy might not be interested in adapting DRUM OF TOMBALKU, since he already did his take on completing the REH original fragment back in SSOC #21. Art from conan.wikia.com/wiki/Savage_Sword_of_Conan_21 & info from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drums_of_Tombalku

It's too bad that Roy didn't use Agnes as the main base for RS' origin, rather than the rape/magical powers origin we got. One of his rare, major missteps, IMO. DHC already has a "fiery swordswoman" in the idiotic, Mitra-forsaken Janissa. I hear that van Lente improved Busiek's abomination of an origin. Hmmm. Somehow, I was under the impression that RT had simply followed LSdC's completion. I lost all my SSoCs in the Flood of 2012. I would like to (re-)read Roy's take on that.

Basically the "demons" were implied to be part of an elaborate mindfuck on the bone woman's part (the bone woman calls them "manifestations of her own mind"). Long story short the demon rape may have just been hallucination or mental manipulation on the bone woman's part.
