I found this post by our Scott at the REH facebook page: Got the nod from Fredrik Malmberg to discuss this, so ... Working on a tie-in novel for Perilous Worlds (an imprint of Cabinet Entertainment) set in the Hyborian Age. Here's my teaser:
Know, O prince, that between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and the years of the rise of the Sons of Aryas, there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars – Aquionia, Nemedia, Ophir, Brythunia, Hyperborea, Zingara with its chivalry, Koth that bordered on the pastoral lands of Shem, Stygia with its shadow-guarded tombs, Hyrkania whose riders wore steel and silk and gold. But the most wicked kingdom of the world was Zamora, with its dark-haired women and towers of spider-haunted mystery.
Hither comes Shevatas, wiry and dark, a thief among thieves, whose name is spoken with awe in the dives of the Maul and the dim shadowy recesses beneath the temples of Bel, and who lives in songs and myths for a thousand years . . .
We know how his life ends, now we're going to explore how a gutter rat from Zamora became the most celebrated thief of the age.
Coming soon ...
This is great news

what a neat idea. I always thought Shevatas was well developed for a redshirt.

The one of the most developed redshirts in history!...though Yeoman Rand was in red, but that's another kind of developed :-)

Your pitch was accepted. Congratulations Scott. Maybe he might cross paths with Taurus of Nemedia?

I'm picking up the story in the days after the fall of Yara's tower, when the king of Zamora is reasserting his authority and those banished by Yara are returning to favor . . . including a nobleman with a titanic grudge against an agent of the dead sorcerer, a guttersnipe and daggerman called Shevatas. So, kind of The Godfather meets Goodfellas in a medieval near eastern setting. From there, the story spans years and locales, from Stygia to the swamps of Zingara. Hopefully it'll be good!

Writing a story about the guy who dies at the beginning of Black Colossus...interesting concept. Will read, for sure!

I'm trying to think of anybody extant who could do this better than Scott Oden. No name comes to mind. Like many others I really look forward to reading this.

Currently, my opening chapter is a mess, causing me to rethink the course of my life and wonder if there's still time to become a farmer, or something easier than writing ... Like a nuclear physicist.

So glad to see more novels set in the Hyborian Age that don't just focus on Conan. I was worried after the Age of Conan novels no one would take this route again. I'm glad I was wrong, I just hope Perilous Worlds sorts out whatever is delaying the publication of their Conan pastiche.

I await this eagerly. Hyborian stories that aren't centered on a certain Cimmerian remain a largely untapped reservoir of pastiche.
As long as you don't have anyone getting turned into a brick. Or blacksmiths who work without their aprons. ;-)
