I read everything REH wrote about Conan and as you may guess I have my version of what Conan is like everyone else I guess. I was watching Scarface again and a thought crossed my mind. Since Conan is the type of antihero who only cares about money whoring personal gain and fighting and becomes a king eventually isn't he very similar to Scarface character Tony Montana? I told my friend the other day that Scarface is Conan in modern settings . I am not talking about his physical characteristics although his face with a scar is the closest movie character how I imagine our Barbarian to look. I know I am always asking these silly questions like a litlle kid but I REALLY want to know what you guys think about this
His temper for example reminds me much of Conan when he gets mad. And the ending of Scarface when they come for him is very similar to Pheonix On The Sword story. They both become badass and stand their ground fighting like a trapped tiger. They also yell the same things like come at me kinda style
Ok enough descriptions . What do you guys think about this?

It's been a while since I last watched Scarface but I would have to say no. Conan takes each day as it comes rarely giving thought to next hour let alone the next day. Montana has a plan. He sees himself in power and does whatever it takes to get there.

Conan did all those things, but in any order...and several times over!

And now I'm picturing Conan saying "Aquilonia is like a great big pussy, waiting to be fucked!" XD

Mmmmaybe.... but OTOH Conan does rise to the top in the groups he joins - Kozakis, pirates, etc. So I think he does plan ahead in that sense

When Scarface is sitting in that chair after he gains his power position reminds me of Conan sitting at his throne in Aquilonia remembering old warrior days

At first glance I'd say they're pretty similar.
But once I start to think about it - Conan's nothing like Tony Montana. Montana is eventually corrupted by the greed and trappings of civilization, he is also very materialistic. The characteristics/attributes of Conan develop through his experiences during his travels, but he is not corrupted by Civilization, he is not concerned about material worth, and when he does lose out on treasure he just shrugs his shoulders and moves on - examples can be found in Tower of the Elephant and The Servants of Bit-Yakin, just a couple that come to mind off the top of my head. According to REH, even as King he's not interested in forming a dynasty or in the conquest of other lands (Hour of the Dragon). In his later years, once peace is established in Aquilonia Conan abdicates the throne willingly, with no heir, and travels the world. Conan is unique in that way, he is primal, natural, instinctive and unpredictable, the type of thing civilized peoples despise.
I just think Tony Montana eventually loses his way and lacks the determination to display favourable characteristics comparable to the Cimmerian. He is too easily tempted by wealth and once he loses control it is a continuous decline until he is killed making his last stand. When he is powerful he profits from the destruction of countless lives and even destroys the lives of those closest to him; including his best friend and his sister.
Conan is the complete opposite, he learns from his past mistakes and desires 'to serve' his people.
“Let others dream imperial dreams. I but wish to hold what is mine. I have no desire to rule an empire welded together by blood and fire. It’s one thing to seize a throne with the aid of its subjects and rule them with their consent. It’s another to subjugate a foreign realm and rule it by fear. I don’t wish to be another Valerius. No, Trocero, I’ll rule all Aquilonia and no more, or I’ll rule nothing.” p.168, Hour of the Dragon, Conan of Cimmeria volume 2, Del Rey/Wandering Star
