I can't think of a better place to inquire about these. I remember looking at the art when I was kid in the Sunday strips, but just recently learned about the run existing in nice hardcovers. does anybody have any opinions on these? They are highly reviewed and have similarities to sword and sorcery stuff. Just looking to learn more before I start picking these up.

I have the first seven or so volumes and intend to get more. The hardcovers are beautiful. If you've never read Prince Valiant, it's brilliant historical adventure. The very early strips have some very light fantasy elements, and some things you might recognize if you've ever read Jack Kirby's Demon comics, but it's really just straight adventure and swashbuckling. The portrayal of Camelot is anachronistic, but that's an artistic decision Foster made because he figured the readers wanted gleaming suits of armor over old Roman fashions.
