New Story Magazine, 1913 -- the other Wyeth Tarzan cover. I found it interesting reading of the mystery surrounding the original artwork of the other other cover

At a Caltech symposium in 1971, Ray Bradbury had said the following: "Thousands of wild-eyed boys have fallen in love with Edgar Rice Burroughs and had their lives changed forever. He has probably changed more destinies than any other writer in American history."
Clarke then spoke up: "I want to go along with Ray Bradbury's views on the importance of Edgar Rice Burroughs. It was Burroughs who turned me on, and I think he is a much underrated writer. The man who can create the best-known character in the whole of fiction should not be taken too lightly!"

That reminds me of another comment by Ray Bradbury, if I recall correctly he said he regarded ERB as 'the most influential writer of the 20th century.'

strangely enough I purchased sixteen or seventeen Burroughs books from the sixties today at my local thriftshop. I was pretty pumped...Tarzan, John Carter, Carson of Venus, The Moon novels...even a tarzan by Fritz Leiber...an amazing haul. eight bucks for all of that plus a couple of CDs and an adapter which I already lost somewhere it pays to be a junk store addict

Another great thing about ERB is not just his great ideas but the way he gets them all to consistently cohere within the larger context, which Joe's image offers a glimpse of.

Tomorrow, according to ERB in his classic The Moon Maid, will be the 50th anniversary of "Mars Day". I couldn't be down in Texas to celebrate this at ECOF tomorrow, so I'm starting early today.

I'd of loved to have been there as well. Hoping to make it next year. Hitting Dum-Dum in a couple months, just can't swing going to both.

As was revealed in the ERBian scriptures, today is the 50th anniversary of Mars Day... I met him in the Blue Room of the Transoceanic Liner Harding the night of Mars Day—June 10, 1967. I had been wandering about the city for several hours prior to the sailing of the flier watching the celebration, dropping in at various places that I might see as much as possible of scenes that doubtless will never again be paralleled—a world gone mad with joy. There was only one vacant chair in the Blue Room and that at a small table at which he was already seated alone. (...)

WHOA!!!Christopher Paul Carey, author of several books on Ancient Opar and huge ERB fan, announced this on June 10, 2017: "Jim Sullos, president of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., announced my forthcoming novel Swords Against the Moon Men, set in the world of Burroughs' Moon series. I've been reading ERB's stories since I was eight years old, and it was ERB who inspired me to take up the path of a writer. To say that I'm deeply honored to have been able to work on this project is an understatement indeed. This is being announced on the fiftieth anniversary of Mars Day, no less!"That is some seriously cool news, especially being announced on Mars Day 2017. Mars Day was written of in The Moon Maid, the first book in Burroughs' "Moon" series. I have high expectations for this project. The setting is a post-apocalyptic Earth dominated by the brutal Kalkars (see below).
