Courtesy of ERB scholar, John Martin... ANNIVERSARIES OF ERB: Aug. 28
Edgar Rice Burroughs spent a lot of time in his office over the years, but he could never be labeled a mere "desk jockey." ERB was active in many ways and passed on his enthusiasm to his growing family. Extended camping trips and horseback riding, as well as other outdoor activities, were a staple of the Burroughs family life.
So, long before there was such a thing as the Boy Scouts of America in Southern California, ERB was teaching his own children a scouting lifestyle, and the heroes of his books would all have made excellent Boy and Girl Scouts.
On this date, Aug. 28, in 1923, the first of a three-part series, written by ERB, was published in the Van Nuys News, under the title of "The Origin and History of the Boy Scouts of America," and tracing the movement's spread to America. It had reached the San Fernando Valley several months early, thanks largely to the efforts of the Kiwanis Club, and ERB wrote the articles to promote further funding through contributions from the public.
The article has been published in Vol. 1, No. 2, of "The Magazine of Edgar Rice Burroughs Fact & Fiction," published by pulpvillepress.com) and also in hardcover and paperback by erbville press. The article can be read at:
www.erbzine.com/mag17/1795.html
In addition, the erbzine page also shows the history of the boys organization later formed by ERB himself: The Tarzan Clans of America.

Picking up on Deuce's previous post regarding Christopher Paul Carey's new Venus comic. Courtesy of Christopher Paul Carey, himself: I like that Kaluta cover! Chris is a good friend of mine, but all that aside he knows his Edgar Rice Burroughs. This should be a cool mini series. All the Edgar Rice Burroughs that American Mythology has put out so far, has been AWESOME, in my opinion. Looking forward to Moon Maid soon. The Land That Time Forgot w/Doug McClure is probably my all-time favorite movies.

ERB would've turned 143 today. His work revitalized the market for over-the-top adventure fiction and influenced the likes of Lovecraft, REH, Fritz Leiber, Robert Heinlein, Frank Herbert and a legion of other writers right up to this day. His legacy is still going strong. Kaor!infogalactic.com/info/Edgar_Rice_BurroughsERBzine is by far the best ERB site on the Web: www.erbzine.com/

Got very lucky today, I picked up 3 ERB hardcovers published by Chenault & Grey with covers by Neal Adams, Frazetta & Michael Whelan. Those are great quality hatchbacks, there, Hun. I got those awhile back with the 100 yr Art Chronology. Good score!

I also had a look at the 100 year art Chronology and the LAND of TERROR Two Volume Set, beautiful stuff.

I've considered buying those three books. Tell me about the font size. I don't know the font size. But, not as small as the Del Rey/Wandering Star editions, probably one or two sizes up, hope that helps. I know it can prove to be quite difficult with the tiny text with some publications, this is not too bad.

Sorry, it's not the 100 Year Art Chronology I had a look at the other day it was the The Edgar Rice Burroughs Library of Illustration Centennial Edition, the 3 Volume set in a slipcase, originally published in 1970's. Very nice, but way too expensive. £750!!!

I hear there will be a all-new set of some 80 ERB books being re-printed next year, with all new cover art by Joe Jusko. I might have to get the Tarzan set...;-)

Joe announced it on September 1, which is his b-day and ERB's: scoop.previewsworld.com/Home/4/1/73/1012?ArticleID=217795This is historic. Never before have ALL the Burroughs novels been published in uniform editions.

Still, they'd be a nice set to invest in, as they probably won't lose their value. I could go seriously broke buying books, I find them so fascinating.
