I hate to see this book fail. I’d have bought it and every subsequent volume Price produced and put them on the shelf right next to the original Flashing Swords.
But just because he has a righteous axe to grind doesn’t mean it’s appropriate that he seize this platform as a means of grinding it.
This book was to be the rejuvenation of a classic Sword & Sorcery anthology series. An unexpected chance to carry forward a venerable tradition.
Why on earth would anybody want to kick that off with a disconnected and questionable rant guaranteed to alienate at least half the potential readership?
Plus, the book had Lin Carter’s name on it. Carter wrote a lot of introductions. Can you imagine him ever writing an introduction anything like this one?

Yeah, time and place. This was not the proper forum for that discussion, or any like it for that matter. Talk about how great it is to have the old series back again and how important the old ones were. You can talk briefly about how times have changed...but not like that.

I believe that any member of our forum would have been able to write a better introduction to this book than Price did... I was hoping to see some kind of short history of s&s anthologies and of course some talk of Lin Carter and Flashing Swords, but we sure as Hel didn't get that. I don't know what he and the publisher were thinking.
Count me in as someone who would have bought this and every installment of Flashing Swords from here on out, but I doubt we'll be seeing any more of this series. I think Price is Carter's literary executor so that's really the only reason we would have got a new Flashing Swords.

When I saw this thread, and the cover to Flashing Swords 6, I thought that might be ok, maybe it would be fun to read Elak of Atlantis, or even Lin Carter's Thongor of Lemuria, stuck in Australia's Covid-19 epicentre, time at home is one thing I have plenty of, but after checking out that link I couldn't believe what I was reading. I mean, why would anyone stick that political shite as an intro. I think I should consider planet stories, easily ordered online.  |

Yeah, the last thing Pulp Hero press need is Price destroying their reputation. They've published some good books recently. |

Not up to par with the classic anthology covers of the paperback era, but I've seen worse in this modern age of clipart. |

My copy of Flashing Swords #6 arrived a few days ago. I didn't even crack it open...put it right into a plastic bag with a backboard. I really want to read the stories, though, so I'll be breaking the seal at some point, but it appears all these stories are going to find homes...so I might just sit on this collector's item. I ordered it on Amazon the night the shit started hitting the fan.
