Over on the Dark Man's Facebook page, there was a posting of the photo above. Link to the Facebook post here: www.facebook.com/tdmjournal/photos/a.2605817689490182/4801320316606564/?type=3&theaterThe original posting asked if any Robert E. Howard yarns were included in any of these pulps. The photo is of a newsstand in New York City on November 19, 1935. Someone found a higher resolution photo and spied a Weird Tales that looks to be, and I agree, from the November 1935 issue, which featured Howard's Conan yarn "Shadows in Zamboula." I thought I would share it over here to see if anyone saw any additional pulp magazines feature Howard's yarns. Here is the link to the high resolution version: artsearch.nga.gov.au/detail.cfm?irn=65496

Kinda thought it could be the issue below, dated October 1935 featuring 'Boot-Hill Payoff' by REH & Robert Enders Allen: ...but it seems more likely to be this one with no REH content: December 1935

Bummer! I just find this so fascinating . . . I keep looking at all the titles . . . like a kid in a candy store!

Here is a blow up of the issue from the picture above: And here is the Dec. 1935 issue:

Awesome! I found another newsstand photo. I got to wondering if the Library of Congress photos had another similar photo and . . . sure enough . . . they had one. This one is from Omaha, Nebraska, November 1938. Although Howard had passed by this time, he was still having many of his stories published in the pulps well into 1939. So, it is possible there is a Howard yarn in one of these pulps. For a high resolution version to help with your search, go to the LOC Photograph here for a download: www.loc.gov/pictures/item/2017762812/Let everyone know what you find.

And they had one more. This is from a newsstand in Manchester, New Hampshire, September 1937. The Library of Congress link is here for the higher resolution photo: www.loc.gov/pictures/item/2017728758/Apparently they had some kind of upside down, pull down to release the magazine, rack. So, here is the photo flipped:

Yeah, wish I could swim back in time across the Atlantic and have a good butcher's at all those great pulp magazines.

Oh, I forgot to add that the July issue includes REH's 'A Man-Eating Jeopard' yarn. Can't seem to upload the scans - I'll add the links below: www.philsp.com/data/images/c/cowboy_stories_193707.jpgwww.philsp.com/data/images/c/cowboy_stories_193708.jpgLove to see one of these upside down magazine racks in a modern comic shop

Here is November: And here is December 1938: The lighter color of the December issue makes me think it is December. The pulps always came out about a month earlier than the date on the cover. So, if that is correct, Howard was in the December 1938 issue: And you're right - if I could go back in time, I'd buy the whole collection!

How did I miss 'The Ghost Kings' in that issue?
