Just seen the announcement for Netflix developing a series/movies based on Howard’s original stories. I certainly hope for the best this time...

This is great news that we have effectively the biggest streaming service around throwing money at an all-new Conan television series. They have shown their quality with The Witcher show, which was acclaimed as a first class adaptation of the source material. With fans clamouring to have Write/producer Steven DeKnight involved with this new production, DeKnight has poured cold water on it by suggesting that due to his quitting the series Jupiters Legacy on Netflix that the idea of 'repairing' his relationship with Netflix just isn't a possibility. The idea of a Conan series from the man who was showrunner on Spartacus would have been absolutely perfect...

A Conan Netflix thing would be fun but there's a balance between staying true to Howard's Vision and adapting to modern sensibilities that needs to be met.
Robert E Howard was a man of his day and there are some parts that have NOT aged well at all and would need changing; the other option is that the show gets cancelled immediately.
Case in point: Black Colossus: The premise is that a masked prophet gathers an army of Shemites (arabs and jews) Kushites (Black People) Stygian's (egyptians) and has them try to conquer the northern lands.....which are all white people. Given all the racist propaganda against Muslims and Middle Easterners (as well as the old "dark skinned hordes coming to rape our women" propaganda) that the right wing uses adapting the story AS IS could result in the show getting pulled. So like it or not it would have to be retooled (i.e. make it clear that many of the people following Thugra are only doing so because they're scared of him or better yet have many tribes not only refuse to join, but head north and join with Conan's army to face down Thugra at Shamla.) Maybe it'll upset the purists but in that case a change is going to have to be made to make it work.
Or Devil in Iron, when Conan refuses to take Octavia's no for an answer and continues to kiss her until she relents. In today's post Me Too world that would cause a lot of criticism.

This news was a great way to start the day today.
Fingers, toes, everything crossed to hopefully see a more closer to faithful rendition of Conan to our screens.
Netflix has done alright so far in regards with the 'Witcher' franchise, and I enjoyed the adaption of the 'Old Guard' movie.
If they have rights to a TV series and Movies and such, we may see several projects ( series, animated series, movie ) such as they have been doing with the Witcher.
I really hope all those involved with this project have a solid respect for R.E.Howard's vision of Conan's character as a cunning, quick witted and intelligent Cimmerian, with blue eyes.

Just hire the guys who were going to do it at Amazon before it was squashed. At least bring Condal onboard. Everyone says that pilot script was fucking awesome.

I don’t see a problem with minimizing the racial and sexist aspects of these tales while still maintaining the essence of the story. The horde does not have to be made up of people of color; hell, they could be all white and have no impact on the thrust of the tale. Keep the sexual situations balanced and to a minimum; it can be done! Focus on the fantastic aspects, evil sorcery, bloody action and horrific monstrosities; that’s what I wanna see.

Please don't suck, please don't suck, please don't suck . . . I join you in this chant Perhaps you'll join me in a simple prayer, too?
Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if it was a good show or bad. Why we tuned in, and why we watched. All that matters is that today, the scripts stood against many revisions. Good writing pleases you, so grant me this one request. Grant me a good Conan show! And if you do not listen, the HELL with you!

Agree on that score but I have encountered Howard fans who object to ANY changes at all. Altered Carbon the show was good in that while it changed plot details the feel of the world felt the same. I suggested how if one wanted to adapt Witch shall be born giving Salome the Reileen treatment could work (in the book reileen's unabashedly monstrous with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. In the SHOW....she's still a monster but you also get a reason as to WHY she's a monster. I think that with Salome you can do something similar by having her be evil but also make it clear that a.) she never really got over being abandoned and b.) That things might have been different if her parents hadn't done that.)
