Is this the one? Art By Gary Kwapisz (SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN #110) THAT'S IT! I love this stuff, especially the Gary Kwapisz run with Chuck Dixon. But, $150 dollars for 15 issues is way too much. You can pick these issues up for around £2 or £3.

The reason I stopped collecting Dark Horse Conan was because I decided that Savage Sword was better. I'd rather have big, sturdy tomes of old 70s comic books that a pile of flimsy issues. Buscema is amazing, but my decision had very little to do with the art. I liked Roy Thomas take on the character better. I just though he was a way more likeable barbarian. I also loved the adaptation of El Borak stories and such, even if it's a form of weird cannibalization of Howard's work.
However, I think I commited a grave mistake. There's place in this big hyborian world for both takes. The original Savage Sword is still amazing, but I don't think it's SO GOOD that anything else deserves to be ignored and put aside.

I just picked up SSOC Omnibus vol 2 as it seems the highest rated after vol 1 (but not at an awful price).
I have no experience with SSOC - for the omnibus fans out there, which volumes do you most recommend, and why?
Cheers!

The Roy Thomas run is great (Volumes 1 to 4) with loads of adaptations. In volumes 3 & 4 we start to get the De Camp pastiche yarns and De Camp's Conanized (El Borak & Historical yarns) REH adaptations - probably the best way to read De Camp's Conan stuff, and the art by Buscema and incredibly talented Filipino inkers really helps.

Also great to know, thanks. Just had a look and 3&4 seem pretty hard to get hold of in Europe or the Uk. Unfortunately. How's the adaption of the film in volume 6? How does that even work?

Thanks for sharing the info. I picked up volume 4 a few weeks ago and have been enjoying it a lot. Any thoughts on the later issues, like volume 8?

Volume 8 of Savage Sword of Conan will be the last one published by Marvel this Wednesday. Apparently, according to Fredrik Malmberg, Titan will continue publishing the remaining SSOC omnibus editions, for now, I think, hope they do anyways.
