Cover A by Yanick Paquette
THE CIMMERIAN: THE MAN-EATERS OF ZAMBOULA
Art & Adaptation by Gess Covers by Gess and Yanick Paquette, Moritat, Robin Recht, and Fritz Casas The Cimmerian in the land of a thousand and one nights!
A crossroads of beliefs, languages, and cultures, the mythical trading city of Zamboula is also the scene of many dark legends. Upon paying the city a visit, Conan is warned of the dangers of Aram Baksh's home. It is said that most of the foreigners who stay there disappear under obscure circumstances…and it is precisely there that the Cimmerian is spending the night. But by lifting the veil on these mysterious cases of kidnappings, the Cimmerian will discover another secret, even more terrible, linked to the whole city of Zamboula…
A story imbued with orientalism and macabre witchcraft, The Man-Eaters of Zamboula offers writer/artist Gess the opportunity to deliver his vision of Robert E. Howard's hero in a comic book story of exotic, erotic and dark beauty."

It'll have to be good to rival Neal Adams'version I just realized I have never read any comic adaptations of the man-eaters of Zamboula. That's crazy, I'm gonna go catch up on the one from SSOC. I just finished reading all 275 issues of CtB for the first time. Gonna start an SSOC reading marathon now. If I remember correctly, the Man-eaters of Zamboula was issue 14.

The new one is going to have to really be on its game to top Adams' Baal-Pteor scene.

This I think was the shortest Glenat Adaptation, about 47 pages. Ablaze could honestly get this one done in 2 issues.

I can still remember SSOC 14, will be interesting comparing it with the Ablaze version. Like the new cover by Yanick Paquette. Nice to know they still do em that way sometimes.

I just read an issue of their People of the Black Circle, The artwork was tiny and the story... I had trouble following it, even though I know it well. Bit of a mess all round IMHO

French Glenat issues (here Ablaze for translation) are certainly not similar to Marvel… Trying to compare is rather nonsense….

Bit of a mess all round IMHO It's probably the Manga art style. It was definitely the hardest adaptation so far to follow along. The art's not bad but it's a bit too 'busy' for my taste, if you know what I mean. And it's not tiny per se because the original stories were graphic novel sized but it's the translations in regular US comic book size that make it look small.

Anyone read this yet? So far, they did a nice job remaining faithful to the story, though the art is a bit on the cartoony side (and Zabibi kind of creeps me out). As with some of the other adaptations, I wish this was available in a larger format, as some of those tiny panels are a little hard to read.

I like it so far, solid faithful adaptation. And the author and artist have some serious balls for doing that in todays world.
