Only about a month away from the return of Vikings on History.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm very nervous about another season with 3 different settings, but let's hope they can bring it together better than they did last year.

I've only seen the first two seasons. (3rd is on my DV-R)
My viewing was a bit odd. I tore through the first season, liked it a lot, but wasn't compelled for the second season.
But, once I did return I got pulled right back in with the characters.

But, once I did return I got pulled right back in with the characters. Yeah there are some interesting characters on the show. The third season was alright, but the viewer was just pulled in one direction too many. I look forward to watching Season 4, though and like the show overall.

I really liked the last season, so I'm looking forward to this new one. I have faith that it'll be a good one, as I haven't been disappointed by this show in the past. I actually like that the scope is becoming broader and more interesting characters are being introduced. Ragnar still gets plenty of attention, so I'm not really concerned.

Anyone else watch the premiere last night?
It didn't blow me away, but the fact that they focused on 2 (really 3 I guess) settings for one episode has be optimistic.
I love little Ivar. "IVAR!"
Oh and what's up with the asian-looking maid/slave that Ragnar is eyeing up?

They've really set up some very intriguing plots for the rest of the season. Yeah, I was wondering about that slave too. I think Ragnar has taken a liking to her...exotic nature.

Well, last night's episode realized my fears. Too spread out.
We even have multiple povs from Kattegat now - Ragnar's village, Lagertha's village, and now Bjorn doing his Jermiah Johnson impression.
Plus, we're back in Wessex with King Ecbert and we're not even sticking to his pov anymore either. It seems Princess Judith, Prince Aethelwulf, and now Kwenthrith and Magnus, too.
At least in Paris we just have Rollo and Count (50 Shades of Grey) Odo. Well, I take that back. Because the woman he's dominating and Rollo's interpreter(?) seem to be up to something to and they had a scene.
I like what I see, but it could really use some more focus. I can see checking in on Paris and Wessex here and there, but they shouldn't be so focused on.
I'd rather see what Ragnar, Lagertha, and Bjorn are up to. It also looks like Ragnar's oldest son with Aslaug seems to be getting fairly capable. He tracked Floki fairly well last night.

I don't want to hate on anyone's taste but I've never understood the praise this show gets. Every time I've dabbled in watching a scene, it was plagued with galling acting and execution, even by low budget standards.
Can someone please explain to me how they can still enjoy this show despite this? Again I'm not here to hate, but I am sincerely curious.

It's got swords, blood and sex... All kidding aside, the acting is fine. Sets, costumes, props and effects are getting better each season. Action and stunts are pretty good. The historical details might be shaky, but I don't care. It's good, pulpy fun!

Yeah don't go into it looking for historical accuracy. I don't think the acting or production values are bad either. It's certainly not what you would see in a Ridley Scott period epic, but it doesn't look like a low budget Asylum funded movie either. I think it looks great.

I frigging hate this show! Makes me facepalm every time. Why, you ask? Well, I don't know! It just feels like it's all about that guy, and his smirk and coolness. And it tries too hard... smear some dirt on people's faces and call it realistic? Bleh.

I'm not looking for any historical accuracy either, but the story is good and the battles scenes are better. It has enough to keep me interested, and I look forward to watching it each week.

To enjoy Vikings, you really have to watch from episode 1 onward, I think. That opening scene with Ragnar seeing Odin wandering the battlefield really won me over. It was like an REH-style Weird Tales moment brought to life.

I agree that the show could get worse once they start focusing on the Sons of Ragnar, but if they go out and get some quality actors to play them after a time jump, it could be cool. I just hope they don't focus on Ragnar's son, Magnus and Athelstan's son, Alfred in Wessex too much. Make that its own show.
Vikings should be set primarily in Scandinavia, Norway, Denmark, etc..
As for Rollo...I heard his actor was cast as the younger version of Liam Neeson's character for a new Taken TV series. So I wonder what that means, if anything for Rollo.
