That was a decent episode last night, but I still have come to the conclusion that spreading the action out across three countries is a mistake. But I'm not sure what the solution is. Doing an entire episode on one setting or character is something the Walking Dead does and it feels like it's a trick to save money. Maybe this is indeed better.
The highlight of the episode was Ivar rolling around and dicing people. Ragnar definitely sees something in him. I'm just not sure what Ragnar's endgame is here. Maybe he knows this is the only way he can get close to Egbert since he lost the majority of his ships and men at sea, and killed the rest.

Yes, I'm very curious to see what Ragnar's plan is here, not to mention his entire reason for coming in the first place. A strategy involving a mere three ships, mostly filled with old men, doesn't seem very good to me, so it appears that they were all expendable anyway.
And I want to see Lagertha gut Queen Aslaug!

Damn last night's episode was pretty damn good. I didn't expect Lagertha to kill Aslaug in cold blood like that. Ivar is going to have one hell of a beef with her when he returns.
LOL at Magnus not being Ivar's son. Having another one might make things sticky. I guess Magnus would be the son of Athelwulf then? Although it was odd how they showed the boy the door so quickly after finding out.
The back and forth between Ragnar and Ecbert was amazing. I guess the two of them did have a weird bond. They seemed to be able to relate to each other over the years. Plus their bond over the mutual respect for their shared man crush, Athelstan.
The scene with Alfred was a nice moment.
Looks like Ragnar came to England to die and basically be the trigger for war.
Is anyone watching Real Vikings after the show by chance? It's pretty cool, has some of the cast participating with archaeologists and scholars.

It was quite enjoyable to witness the conversations between Ragnar and Ecbert, and it makes me wish they could form a new and greater alliance, go forth and conquer their mutual enemies.
Per my last post here, I was happy to see Lagertha take that person down (as to not spoil anyone here), though I was surprised at the manner in which she did it. Man, this season is excellent so far!

Per my last post here, I was happy to see Lagertha take that person down (as to not spoil anyone here), though I was surprised at the manner in which she did it. Man, this season is excellent so far! Over the past couple of seasons they've spent a lot of time building Lagertha up as a fierce, independant warrior, and one who has moved on from her relationship with Ragnar - he is, after all, pretty much a joke now back in Kattegat - so for them to make such a big deal about her motivation being her belief that Ragnar had been bewitched and stolen by Aslaug, rather than her own ambition, feels like a step back - although I might be misunderstanding the situation. Mind you, I'm not too sad to see the end of said character, as it'll allow things to move on quicker for Lagertha and Ragnar's sons. ...... You make a good point, and you might be right, though I think Lagertha's own ambitions are still a big factor in her returning to Kattegat...as well as a desire for revenge. She wants to get back at the bitch who took her man. I always had the feeling that she still cared deeply for Ragnar, despite her independence - I think this season is just focusing on it a little more. I'm not sure she really believes that Ragnar was bewitched, since she might just be using that as an excuse. It's possible that she's just telling people that so she doesn't have to admit to anyone (or make them suspect) that she still loves him.

One of the interesting possibilities after the last episode is that Ragnar does not need to die now. Not that I think that is what is likely to happen here, but he and Ecbert just talked about making up a story that he had been killed by King Aella. All that needs to happen now is for Ragnar to disappear . . ..
I'm assuming Ragnar revealed his agenda when he warned Ecbert that his sons would seek revenge, but promised to tell Ivar that he was being given to Aella. I assume Ragnar wants his sons to unite to overthrow Wessex. If he wanted to be killed in Northumbria, he could have taken a shorter trip. I expect he plans to deceive Ecbert, as he previously instructed Ivar to watch and remember everything he sees (your dad being beaten and tortured) and Ragnar can say anything he wants since Ecbert doesn't speak Viking.
Ecbert seems to be planning for his heirs, or at least for Alfred, but I'm not sure what he means by confessing that he ordered the slaying of the Viking settlement and regretted that he acted too soon. My guess is that Vikings are a key part of his attempt to consolidate the English kingdoms, both as warriors for hire and as external threats to weaken the other Kingdoms. He may have destroyed the settlement too soon because he incorrectly thought that he didn't need them anymore and as a demonstration of strength. If this is his thinking, then Ragnar isn't the only one laying the course of events for generations to come.

R.I.P Ragnar Lothbrok, what an interesting character.
Not sure the show will be as good without him around.
It looks like Bjorn and Ivar will be taking center stage as the new main characters.

Powerful episode! I'll miss Ragnar, but I'm looking forward to Ivar's revenge. And I'm eager to see what becomes of Lagertha too. There's definitely enough to hold my interest for awhile!

I once read a book where the famous warrior king was a cripple and fought on horseback...why cant Ivar do that I heard the same thing too, but I think we'll be seeing that soon. If he's going to war and/or leading men, it seems like the best and most efficient way for him to actively participate.

Yeah, we know that Ivar is deadly when he's sitting up. He definitely has some serious upper body strength. That might be the only realistic way to accurately portray him in combat.

also I think it would be cool if another brother besides Rollo showed up out of nowhere, a bastard son of their father forced into exile by his other kin...heck he could even look like Ragnar..hehe, a younger Ragnar it worked on the soaps

Well, tonight's episode basically acted as a bridge it seems, but was still very good. I thought the man in the boat during the closing of the previous episode may have been a manifestation of Odin, and that's definitely what it looks like now. It appears he even has the same right-side facial tattoos near his empty socket as Ragnar did. I DVRed the episode, but I need to watch the scenes where he visits all of the Sons of Ragnar again. I love these moments of the supernatural on the show, very Weird Tales and REH-like. Other than that, the raid on that ridiculously weak port city was entertaining, the brothers are definitely going to try something sooner or later. It was interesting to see Loki not wanting to slaughter everyone in the temple, I guess he's learned a lot in his older age and has mellowed out some. Lagertha isn't long for this world it seems. Ivar is building something.... From some of the teasers shown it appears it could be some type of chariot he can ride into battle .
