You realize we've put far more thought into this than the filmmakers likely did. By Crom & Erlik, you're right I'm certain it'll still be a great movie with the Zingorian Empire forming an alliance with their Venndyian neighbours invading the Hirkanyans from the north. Thankfully, Red Sonja's Hirkanyans will fight to the last man, woman and pony culminating in a 4 hour long battle where the heroic Sonja and remaining valiant Hirkanyans make their defiant last stand at the Great Wall of Wang-Tengri! By Crom it'll be a movie of EPIC proportions Just add some Hyrkanian Galleons squaring off against the Sky Pirates of the Vanir and it'll be good to go, by Ishtar.

Judging by the brief information so far released about this movie it's looking like they are moving away from Swords and Sorcery and towards a more high fantasy slant. It will probably also have some of the myth genre in the mix. Since Dynamite's Red Sonya is already two steps removed from REH's original it makes me wonder if they will even decide to set the movie in the Hyborian Age at all.

Hopefully a Game of Thrones / Witcher fantasy vibe as opposed to a Marvel / DC comic book feel.

That's an interesting thought I wonder what the agreement was between Cabinet/Paradox and Red Sonja Corp. on using the Hyborian Age setting. Whether it just covered the comics _and_ other media.

I think it is more likely that most writers don't really care or cannot be bothered to put some effort into the research involved when it comes to the Hyborian Age. I suspect we will get something pretty similar in the upcoming movie.

And I dont. As I've said, she's a good actress. Just isnt what it should've been. And, Im sick and tired of all this sjw bullcrap that take over the world. As well as big part of this world is also Not only does it reflect a seedbed of ideological hatred, but it speaks to the parasitical nature of modern filmmakers. No one can create anything original. They only take older, better, creations and in an effort to seem original, edgy, woke, or whatever, they wind up sucking the life out of them.
This is a common misconception. This has been the way of Hollywood since its very beginning. Many movies have been based on books or fiction from the get-go. Movies made in the 20's and 30's were remade in the 40's and 50's. Some movies were remade for the current generation numerous times.

There's certainly been a lot of recycling in the old days. Lord knows how many times the Three Musketeers has been remade (in the US, I can count around 10 times since the Fairbanks version in 1922). It took them three times to get the Maltese Falcon right. Silent and sound versions of Quo Vadis, King of Kings, Ten Commandments, Ben Hur. And it's not just movies. Not to get religious, I've viewed the four Gospels (telling the same story) sort of as films from different eras: Mark is the silent version, laying out the main story Matthew is the Selznick mid-30s version, adding some parts in to give a fuller picture Luke is the big 50s Cinemascope, MGM roadshow version (and it has a sequel!) John is the radical 60s relook at the story There is something to the running out of ideas or beating old ideas into the ground aspect, though. It depends on how it's done. Neither way guarantees success. John Carter was a pretty respectful adaptation of the Burroughs books. The following year's Lone Ranger was a semi-mockery of the original take. Both bombed. Go back to 1980: Flash Gordon was a campy take on the old comic strip, Legend of the Lone Ranger was a straight forward take on the story that at times was unintentionally campy, both of those bombed (though one got a second life thanks to cable). It certainly seems like RS is going to be a bit more deconstructionalist in its approach (though I could be wrong, we'll see when it comes out). If it's a good story and well made, it may do ok.

I could actually see her more as Sonja based on her Blindspot work.

"Based on the character created by REH" er NO! "Based on a character created by RT & BWS party based on characters created by REH" but I guess that would be too long and confusing for the actors

www.theilluminerdi.com/2021/06/02/red-sonja-sacha-baron-cohen/Nothing confirmed, but a possible update on the Red Sonja movie casting. "Our sources have told us that Millennium Studios has put an offer out to Hollywood star Sacha Baron Cohen to play a co-leading role of Kulan Gath in the Red Sonja movie. There is no word as to whether Cohen has accepted the offer at this point"

I suppose Sacha Baron Cohen was kinda sinister, in a quirky way, as Father Time in Alice Through the Looking Glass.
