Just for nostalgia let's take a look at the other appearance of the She Devil with a sword on film, Angelica Bridges as Red Sonja in the 1998 Conan tv show. It was cheap and cheesy but still fun to watch.  |

It was cheap and cheesy but still fun to watch. Now that was a blast from the past. Hard to believe that the Conan tv series is almost a quarter of a century years old. Now that Red Sonja looked liked she belonged in one of the more B grade 80's fantasy movies. |

The stars will never align to produce such a wonder again. Danny Woodburn's Otli was my favorite character on the show. I wish they had done a Red Sonja spinoff with RS and Otli because I would still be watching the reruns. |

A world where Baywatch and Seinfeld come together... The stars will never align to produce such a wonder again. Danny Woodburn's Otli was my favorite character on the show. I wish they had done a Red Sonja spinoff with RS and Otli because I would still be watching the reruns. He was by far the best actor on that show and almost always carried the episode. They did well to give him such an important role instead of making his character just another companion who was along for the journey. |

Yeah that sword looks something they got from party city and then didn't even finish painting the handle. Goofy weapon prop design has been a problem with a lot of S&S movies right from the start and probably still is with stuff like Khalar Zym's scissors sword in Conan 2011. Hopefully with the new Red Sonja they will get interesting costume and prop design whether they go with the chainmail bikini or not. |

Goofy weapon prop design has been a problem with a lot of S&S movies right from the start and probably still is with stuff like Khalar Zym's scissors sword in Conan 2011. Hopefully with the new Red Sonja they will get interesting costume and prop design whether they go with the chainmail bikini or not. They really need to do their research. there should be consultation with the HEMA/historial martial arts groups when it comes to designing weapons. Go historical functionality as a starting point and just tweak the designs for a 'fantasy' look. |
