I think she'll know exactly what to do with Red Sonja. We need a 300 style movie, not a Marvel or DC flick. Here is another good example of comic book stylized movie.
Bassett's Solomon Kane deviated a lot from REH but I enjoyed it, I think the same style will work well with Red Sonja. I'm curious how all this will play out with the Hyborian Age setting since it will be basically beating any recent Conan adaptation to the punch in portraying the setting on screen. Who knows, maybe it will be connected with 2011 Conan. I wouldn't mind seeing a Momoa Conan and Red Sonja team up someday. I have heared that most of those changes were studio mandete , maybe with a little more creative freedem the adaptation could be better. I can’t remember if Bassett commented on his old blog whose decision it was to insert that idiotic mutant of Balrog and Transformers at the end of the film, but I could bet he was forced to do so by the producers. As for the portrayal of the Hyborian world in the upcoming RS film, I will be pleased if we do not see dragons and elves in it, and I hope that the Hyborian states, cities and nations will be accurately and authentically presented.

Musta just missed out on MJ Bassett the other day at Forbidden Planet in London. It's a shame, cos thanks to my dark eyes, Hyrkanian black hair, and powerful arms after years of hunting in Southwark Park with my composite bow I woulda been a perfect fit as Hun Kalmyk the Hyrkanian or better still Prince Yezdigerd for the upcoming movie   http://instagr.am/p/CeBgi38qmk5 |

I'd corresponded with MJ for awhile before hand and when I introduced myself there he mentioned to James that I'd been chatting to him about SK so it was nice to be acknowledged. Also met MJ's daughter , as well as a couple of the producers. |

There will be no 'Comic book' origin story.
An actress has been found to portray Red Sonja, just not announced yet.

Could Megan Fox be the actress MJ will announce as Red Sonja? Her last couple of movies are in post production and she recently worked with MJ Bassett in Rogue (2020).  |

She held her own against a bunch of swords...creatures and she's got additional...assets that make her an interesting choice.

Perhaps a relatively unknown actress would be for the better to portray Sonja. I always feel that someone too well know detracts from the cinematic character. Time will tell, but I do feel quite encouraged by MJ Bassett's enthusiasm for the project.

An unknown actress is probably more likely to make a good character for reasons you stated, but a known actress is more likely to attract the casual fan and thus make more money. More money leads to potential sequels.  |

Connery was a relatively unknown actor before Bond, Arnie likewise before Conan... Cruise as Reacher was a distraction. But obviously the backers and producers desire to make a profit.
Either way they go with casting, it is good that a sword and sorcery film is in production whomever they cast as Sonja.
