Any guesstimate as to when this movie is supposed to come out?
That was a month ago.
In the meantime, it was announced that little Sonja will be played by Sofia Weldon.
And here are Matilda's stuntwomen.

Shannon Kingston, wife of the RS license holder and moderator of official RS Instagram page, keeps repeating that Matilda Lutz is the perfect choice for Sonja by comparing her to Gal Gadot, who made the first WW movie such a success.
Shannon explains how Matilda is a fresh, new face, just like Gal was before WW, that she is a gorgeous woman too, that she is as amazing in action scenes, and that she is a fantastic actress (better than Gal) which, as she says, was the main criterion in casting of the lead actress for Sonja.
According to that mathematical equation, the RS movie should achieve the same success as WW.
I agree that Matilda is a better actress than Gal, it's not difficult after all, but Shannon doesn't understand that it wasn't Gal’s good acting that made the WW movie a success, but her looks.
Matilda is simply not as attractive as Gal, so that her appearance alone could attract a large number of people to the cinemas - ordinary moviegoers who have never heard of Red Sonja before.
Does Matilda look badass and dangerous, which is necessary for the role of Red Sonja? Definitely not. That's why she has to make a lot of effort in the action scenes to convince us she is. Gal didn't have to. She looks dangerous and we know she is, because she was an IDF soldier and combat instructor. That's why she was so natural and believable in the action scenes, no matter how crazy they look in a superhero movie.
It's not even true that Matilda is a new, fresh face like Gal was before WW. She is well known to fans of the horror genre, and is also known to the big audience of the Medici TV series.
Last week I watched Revenge for the second time. I really tried to see Red Sonja in Matilda, who is covered in blood and kills her rapists one by one, but I just couldn't.

Maybe they should stop trying to turn waifs like Matilda into warriors. So much work, perhaps if the movie audience squints they will see something badass, or they should have just gone for a no nonsense approach. I watched Deadpool on telly the other night, noticed how tough Gina Carano looked when she was kicking the shit out of Colossus. They should have just cast her as Red Sonja.  |

I have almost forgotten about this production, so what is the go, are the studio execs too embarrassed to release the promo, how shit is it that they are probably killing themselves in the cut and paste department getting some trailer ready that looks at least partially presentable.
They can still salvage it, just turn it into some romantic comedy, a New York love story, shoot a few more scenes of Matilda Lutz playing some ordinary office worker over her head in love and work, and who is fond of daydreaming of herself as Red Sonja, this way we get a few flashbacks to the action scenes already created, get Ben Stiller to play some dorky clerk she eventually falls for, maybe a cameo of Arnie playing her manager who is a fan of Conan with the Atlantean sword and CtB posters hanging in his office, a wink to the audience, set it in the 80's with the music, kinda like some homage to the 80's, similar to the Wedding Singer with Adam Sandler, but this one also a homage to the 80's heroic fantasy flicks.
Maybe they can work some meagre return as a chick flick so it's not a complete flop, or less of a flop.
