Sure, but point being is, with a lot of this fan casting, they are not even actors. Could there be a find? Sure. Was not suggesting it be a well known, or even known, actor.

Yeah I’m not big on the fan casting either, too cheesy. You KNOW they’re not going to cast it that way so don’t get yourself upset about it. Tilly’s gonna have to do a heckuva job. |

Since there are more distributors, I think there’s a better chance it gets a European theatrical run than a US one at this point. I think this will be streaming only. Probably on Netflix given their love for the Arnie Conan and Red Sonja films.
Nobody in their right mind would release this in an already struggling theater landscape.
Unless the current strike continues for another five or six months and new content is at a premium and theaters are insanely desperate.

But all of the fan casting is nothing without acting. Or, would you rather have the right thing to look at, with off-kilter delivery? I don’t know what “fan casting” means, but what I would prefer to have is an actress who fits the description of the character. White skin, red hair. I don’t think that’s an impossible ask. |

Must be pretty shit if everyone is looking for someone to distribute it and wondering where it will end up. In the good ol days it would have found a home somewhere in the back corner of the ol video rental store, something you watch when you have watched all the good new releases and have no other option.

Upset? Nah. I just find the lusting over all of these cosplayers and wrestlers, that more than likely cannot act, to be funny. But that said, we were going to get John-Kamen and she is terrible in Killjoys. Granted, she may have been directed that way, as everyone seems to suck and perhaps they were going deliberately for cheese/Rated B over-the-top fun?
I suppose one can indeed dream that there is the perfect Sonja out there.

The only other thing I can find is what everybody else has come across, that bit about the producer Luke Lieberman quoted earlier this year saying that the film is expected to be out in the first quarter or second quarter of 2024.
As for the casting, it's easy to get tons of women that would be better suited to play Red Sonja than Matilda Lutz without half trying. There was that short Teela film some pages back with Emily Ashby for one thing, many more examples sprinkled around, people that can act and look the part.
Imagine getting paid to direct and produce the thing, Matilda Lutz would be lucky if she got a stint as a scullery maid.

Red Sonja should be tall, beautiful, busty, curvy, white skin and fiery red hair, not girl next door skinny Matilda, tiny and flat chested, so of course she will not wear a chain mail bikini. After the last several years of dismal failures I am convinced Hollywood does not even care and is intentionally tanking.
That's what I liked about the 80's fantasy films, when it worked you got Beastmaster, CtB and Ladyhawke, when it didn't at least they still gave you B grade features with warrior women that looked good as in the original Red Sonja, now you get jack shit.
