As someone who recently got back into comics, this line- Berserk is all over the place and his held in VERY HIGH regard from what I have seen. It's a shame that Miura passed before finishing it off.
I have tried to get a grip on whether or not Berserk is something I would enjoy but the explanations seem vague to me. I'm not someone who has ever got into anime, manga or read books the opposite way (unless you count the old Voltron cartoon and I have seen Fist of the North Star), so has anybody here read this? What would you compare it to?

What would you compare it to? I have volumes 1 to 3 of the Deluxe edition by Dark Horse. I'll probably get to them once I finish reading the last couple of comics in the CtB 5 omni and the Kull stories by Chuck Dixon. I have the same problem, I dunno if I'm gonna like the series. The art improves with each volume and it is interesting to see the development of Kentaro Miura's storytelling over the years. I'm potentially a little concerned about the Dark elements to the story in Berserk and I dunno if it'll be the type of thing that I appreciate. I found the same problem when reading the Elric stories. Anyways I'm gonna give it a go soon.

This hurts. I got into Berserk back in early 2000s when the anime was being fan subbed online. Once that ended I started reading the manga since it went well beyond the anime adaptation. For the last two decades this has been the biggest fear in Berserk fandom. Rest in piece, Kentaro, you are immortal through your work and all those who were inspired by it.

It's actually quite ironic, the fans of Berserk have always jested that Miura would perish ere completing Berserk. I think a lot of them had come to terms with the fact that they may never find out how Guts story ends. It's still sad though and a was quite shocked to find out about this a couple of weeks ago, kind of couldn't believe it actually.

It's a shame he never got to finish the manga. Can't say I've seen the anime or read the Manga but from what I hear it's really good. I've never really watched anime up until recently but I'll definitely give it a try because from some accounts I've heard that guts is somewhat similar to your typical sword and sorcery character although I'm not sure how accurate that is.

This weeks some news were released, his co-authored manga "Durenki" was cancelled, still no news regarding "Berserk" but some sources claims that the story was 80% completed and that the last chapter thas the end of the current arc. Its a happy chapter, so sad that we would never see an end and personally speaking I always wanted someone to hire Kentaro Miura to do the designs for a TV series or high budget movie.

I'd say that Berserk qualifies as sword & sorcery. I highly recommend the 1997 anime, it's what got me to read the manga. I'd actually say that the 1997 anime is a little better than the manga, even though it only covers a fifth of the story.
