With the cancelation of Savage Sword of Conan after 12 issues, the failure of the Age of Conan books last year and the recent cancellation of the Conan The Barbarian series, thanks I guess to low sales despite the great writing of Jim Zub. What should Marvel do to improve sales of Conan comic books? Should they just not bother announcing any new series as an ongoing (let's be realistic the same goes for several Marvel titles) and publish the odd mini-series here and there like the upcoming 6 issue King Conan series by Aaron & Asrar? Maybe go the Original graphic Novel route, mixed up with the odd mini-series? With a couple of additional King-Size Conan issues like they did last year? Will Conan remain in the 21st century after Kulan Gath arc in Savage Avengers? Is it worth pursuing? Will Fredrik Malmberg eventually intervene if sales continue to fall next year? Sales of the omnibus editions have been very good in Direct Market and Book Market online. Is it worth Cabinet's time to continue with Marvel if they cannot improve the sales of new material?

That's easy, target the adult audience, bring back the SSOC mag, not some comic that swiped the title, include REH adaptations, don't go out of your way not to offend everyone cause that never works, sex, violence and great story telling is a must, include the best artists in the business, black and white interior, fantastic splash covers.

I think series that contain 6-12 issues are the thing we will getting more of in the future. It is not really that different from just doing runs of the same length in a longer series and I hope it creates more occasional buyers for the series. I would also enjoy more Savage Avengers that includes Conan and other 21st century stuff. Some don't like it but honestly that's a good way to introduce him as part of the Marvel universe to new potential readers. I'm happy to hear the omnibus ones are selling great, so hopefully they will finish both series as well as bring out other ones.
My biggest wish personally are just new original Conan stories with new ideas while sticking to the original Howard concept of Conan and his world, no matter if single-issue, graphic novel or in a series.

I think mini series , with one-shots like the King-Size would be the way to go and get top talent on the titles to drag readers in. The problem though with that is that they'd probably have to pay the top talent more and also they never seem to sell as well as on-going titles so it's a bit of a cache 22 situation.
I would think Malmberg will be happy as the collected editions are doing OK but be interesting to see what happens when it's all used up.
Although a mag. like the old SSOC would be great , it doesn't seem these days there's a market for that type of thing.

Yeah I agree I think it is really difficult for Marvel to assign a superstar creative team on a Conan book considering the reasons you have posted above. You could kinda do it with titles like the X-Men with art by Jim Lee or Silvestri returning to Wolverine, or something like Frank Miller & Bill Sienkiewicz returning to Daredevil. With Conan it is a little more difficult even if they got Cary Nord or Giorello back for a issues, I cannot see that improving sales. The omnis are doing well and it looks like it'll take around 5 years to collect all of the Conan books. I'd love a SSOC style book, but I just can't see them doing it for Conan. Marvel have recently published the Black, White & Red books for Wolverine, Elektra and Deadpool, I guess it is a little too late for a Conan book to join the party now

I tried the new comics but found the artwork cartoony and the stories, on the whole, not that engaging. I still reread my old SSOC's the new ones get one read and that's it

Yeah, I like the Savage Avengers. Do you think Conan should stay in the 21st century? Should they drop the Hyborian Age continuity based on REH? I'm talking about the stuff set after Queen of the Black Coast, we know that these adventures in the 21st century are set sometime after the death of Belit when Conan meets Scarlet Witch in the Avengers No Road Home, Why not use this as an opportunity to create new stories for the Cimmerian without some pre-determined future with Conan as King of Aquilonia? The yarns have been adapted countless times by Marvel, Dark Horse and now Glenat in comic books.

But just reading the same old adaptations of the same dozen Howard stories doesn't get me that interested anymore, no matter how great the current Glenat run is. You can just read about Conan killing Yag-kosha that many times. What I like most are original stories in the Hyborian Age but I see the need to connect him with other heroes to make enough sales and if Conan stays in modern times, so be it.

Maybe, but it would be an improvement on what has been on offer of late. Marvel needs to decide on who they want as there target audience, kids or adults, can't have both.

Would you be willing for Marvel to drop adventures in the Hyborian Age and have Conan comics set in the 21st century with no connection to stories set after his adventures with Belit? Basically, a Conan in the modern era with a future that is yet to be be determined? Don't get me wrong he could go back to the Hyborian Age, but with a less certain future. Is that something you would not mind seeing?

But aslong as there is classic Hyborean Age Conan, everything else is a bonus for me.

-Focus on its target audience (mature readers and people) -Get a team of writter and artist that will work all along, having multiple artis harm the title ( Dark Horse Conan&Belit arc, for example). - Use an specific time frame for a time/series. -Adapt Howard stories or maybe Lin Cartes and L. Camp ones, some of them could work

I myself have been reading SSOC since I was around 10 so I think even if they do bring back an SSOC looking magazine they won't lose the appeal of most of their young buyers. However, most comic readers nowadays would easily pick up a colored mag as opposed to something B&W. So as much as I'd personally like to see a new Black and White Conan mag, it's a risky decision and it could potentially cause the sales to go up but there's a much higher chance that it'll do terrible and would be cancelled after a few issues.
Because in the grand scheme of things, Hardcore Conan/REH fans are very few compared to the amount of sales that Marvel may need to keep a magazine going.
