Anyone seen this trailer? Conan Blood of the Serpent trailer I mentioned it a few days ago. At the time there had been 36 views and 1 like (mine). 77 now and 3 likes... Not what I call a "buzz" Sales don't seem to pick up: 220 in Sword & Sorcery on Amazon UK at the moment and 131 on Amazon US (was in the top 100 yesterday) By Crom, how did I miss that.

Seventy pages in, I can't really say that I like it all that much about it so far. Stirling's prose is...ordinary, not Howardian, nor purple prose. His writing is bit lame at times, could have tried using some synonyms. The pace is very slow because he takes a lot of time giving details about everything, so far I don't know what the pastiche is even going to be about really. He's definitely not an author who knows how to surmise and be succinct. Hopefully I'll like it enough to finish it. I'm 100 pages in and starting to get accustomed to the pacing and style of writing. I also notice that Conan applies something similar to the Mongolian 'Nerge' hunting technique when commanding the mercenaries of Zarallo (probably something he picked up during his years among the Hyrkanians or Turan).

I'm 65 pages in, starting Chapter 5, and I'm really digging it. No, it's not Howard. No, it's not the best thing I've ever read. But, yes, it's tapping that Conan vein. It's good to have some new Conan to read, and this book isn't bad at all.

Mine is due to arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to reading it. I'm curious about the inclusion of Lovecraftian elements and Burroughs' Mangani that I've read about in reviews.

I am dropping this pastiche. It's not worth reading in my opinion.

Hocking's "Conan and the Living Plague" would have been the ideal release to launch a new series of pastiches, there is already interest and "goodwill" within the target fanbase for the title.

Yes couldn't understand why it was dropped as it was ready to go anyway , especially , as you say , there were already folks wanting it.

It went from the IP Holding Company (Conan Properties/Cabinet, whatever they're called this week) publishing REH pastiche (with gods awful marketing and placeholder covers) via their new Perilous World imprint to Titan Books publishing them (with god awful marketing and a clipart cover). I think the original plans were dropped once Titan came onboard. Probably wanted a bigger name.

I don't thinking that's right. I'm not seeing anything about Titan here: conan.com/conan-and-the-emerald-lotus-is-coming-back/That's from May 2019, the Titan announcement didn't come until June 2021 here: swordsofreh.proboards.com/thread/1422/perilous-worlds-partners-titan-booksFrom what I can recall it was Titan in, Perilous Worlds out. Something definitely happened between Perilous Worlds and Titan, though. Maybe we'll find out some day why they trashed the original plans. Maybe the IP Holding Company discovered it was harder to publish books than they thought? Then Titan made them an offer to do it for them and a licensing deal was struck? But, the promotion has been terrible, either way. Did anyone from Titan come on here or other REH and S&S boards and offer up electronic advanced reader copies to review and help get the word out? I haven't seen any of that. Horrible promotion.

Weird, always been a strange situation. But I think Titan is to blame, ultimately for shelving the Emerald books. Could be wrong but that just seems the easiest explanation.
