This wasn't directed by Michael Bay. It was Alex Proyas. And Libaax, you're referring to Exodus: Gods and Kings, not Gods of Egypt. Ridley Scott had nothing to do with this one. But Exodus was pretty terrible. I was resisting seeing this because of the whitewashing as I did The Lone Ranger (though I ended up getting forced to see that and liking it), but my wife really wants to check it out as she's a nut for all things Egyptian and I gotta admit the giant cobra riders look pretty cool. I'll probably wait for home video though. Yes sorry I mixed this film first with Exodus. Its similar blockbuster epic with similar bad rep for same reasons. Ridley Scott qoute is interesting because there is money reasons in Hollywood for whitewashing characters. The films themselves are not interesting or the real issue but the reasons behind them..... Like you I have avoided this just like Exodus because of the whitewashing otherwise I would be all over this kind of film of cool monsters, gods fighting.

Well, in spite of a fairly bland protagonist in the form of Brendon Twaites, and some video-gamey CGI, I ended up liking this. Maybe it was my very low expectations, or maybe it was the fact I had seen Dragons of Camelot not too long ago, but this ended up being the good kind of fun. The sheer weirdness of some of the imagery (Ra's boat sailing over the flat Earth, Set pulling body parts out of his fellow gods, giant fire-breathing cobras) more than make up for the flaws. The humor didn't hurt either.
My prediction is that opinions of this movie are going to undergo a seismic shift in the years to come. It wouldn't be the first time an Alex Proyas film did poorly on initial release and ended up as a cult favorite, after all. I also note that copies of this DVD have been on hold at my local library longer than Deadpool.
Guilty pleasure? Sure, I'm guilty.

I also note that copies of this DVD have been on hold at my local library longer than Deadpool. This film has frequent circulation at the library where I work, and we still own a few copies of it (we typically narrow it down to one copy of a movie when the circulation slows down enough). I haven't seen it yet, but plenty of people are still interested!
