Jim Zub interview at the Comic Culture YouTube channel: Jim Zub - Creator Conversations - Conan The Barbarian | Savage Sword | Battle of the Black StoneWow, a 2 hour conversation. Thanks Hun. Jim's very generous with his time. I think he's being a little harsh on himself when he says he wouldn't have bet his chips on himself after his run on Conan with Marvel, given what was happening at the time. Imho he would have stabilized the sales and steadily built up the Conan readership at Marvel if they'd have kept with the license and given him a longer run.

Yeah, you're right Von K, he is very generous with his time. He is a little harsh with himself, but probably realistic about his chances with the Titan relaunch at the time. I'd imagine they'd want to steer well clear of anything to do with the recent Marvel run and start with something completely different. Just shows how impressed the fans were with the Jim Zub comics at Marvel and I think Fredrik and the guys at Titan knew that! Jim Zub is passionate and I think his history of collaboration in animation, and various roles in comics from drawing, colouring and of course writing made him an ideal candidate for the series. He is willing to do the research on Conan/REH and listen to scholars like Jeff Shanks, again the ideal candidate for the Conan books, really when you think about it. Most writers have their own vision but can be a little apprehensive when it comes to collaborating with others, I think Jim's experience in animation, comics and even his work at the university help him utilise those skills.

Indeed. Zub knows his Conan. There also would not be 5-10 variants every single month. As a completest, really not sure what to do. Getting difficult spending $30-50 a month on one title.
