Thought this would be a decent place to put this. I mention the new Conan book and the new Elric book in the video.

Thought this would be a decent place to put this. I mention this and the new Elric book in the video. That's a great point. I went to Barnes & Noble to get a book with my son and I took a look at the recent reprints on the (whole) Dune series. The ones from the 70s and 80s had those great paintings that looked like they were made out of sand. The newer books had a sort of unified design but had a picture on the front that gave you an idea of what was happening in the book. The most recent: all generic block letters and bland colors. Why would I want to pick that up over something else? I told Neal Adams when I got to meet him that his cover painting for the Ballantine Tarzan of the Apes made me WANT to pick that book up, and then read the rest to get to Son of Tarzan with Korak throwing the flaming Arab over his head. At least the Rick Riordan books have sort of interesting covers that give you an idea of what's going on inside.

Thought this would be a decent place to put this. I mention this and the new Elric book in the video. Interesting vid and topic Jason. I'm currently rather old fashioned in my reading habits, never having fully taken to digital reading, so I do tend to prefer physical editions with fully painted covers by a talented cover artist when available. I do think you have several valid points about the economics of modern publishing.
