Creator Steven S. DeKnight will develop a sequel to the early 2010s series that was a breakout for the premium cabler. Starz is plotting a return to ancient Rome, and to its first breakout original series. The premium cable outlet is developing a revival of/ sequel to Spartacus, the first original show to reach a wide audience. Series creator Steven S. DeKnight is writing the new take — Starz says it will “expand” on the original — and will serve as showrunner. “It’s such an incredible honor to be invited to return to the world of Spartacus and to be met with unbridled creative support from my colleagues at Starz and Lionsgate,” DeKnight said in a statement. “Together we are crafting something truly unique and unusual for the next chapter in this epic story.” REST AT www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/spartacus-starz-revival-series-1235321644/

They did seem like they were setting up Caesar for more. A Gallic war series could be killer. Not sure how interesting the people who survived would be.

That was a great series, will be difficult to top.
It would probably be a better idea to focus on another character using the same style rather than pick up where Spartacus left off.
I would love to see a Trojan War epic across multiple seasons in this style.

That might work, with Vercingetorix as the title character. Spartacus was great, but not much you could do after his defeat, no more slave/gladiator uprisings, nothing significant anyway.

I would have words.
In matters concerning this news, it seems the God's have chosen to smile on us after a long drought of wokeness. Of late, movies and shows have fallen from Hollywood like shit from ass.
***
This had better be done right. I want limited gay material- I can concede that since it fits the times and the previous shows. But beyond that, it had better have unashamed, extreme levels of gore, a techno/metal score that I will eventually steal from the internet, the same dialogue style, and lots and lots of subservient slave-tits jiggling all over the place. Trying to remember what characters were even alive at the end of the fourth season.

There was Crassus, Caesar and a couple of the slaves, slim pickings. Which is why either a Gallic Wars or something on the First Triumverate would be a better choice than trying to pick up the pieces of how the last show ended.
Let's face it, Spartacus was well scripted, well actied pornography, or at the very least one step away from it. Could they do it that way again today?

Yeah, I would just take the formula and apply it to other times and settings. A Trojan War series would be ideal. From what I remember there's lots of gay sex in there that should please the woke crowd and plenty of violence, for us sword and sandal fans. I think the only problem is the gay sex is mostly Achilles raping people, so that could be a problem.

Maybe they can make a series about the elite gay military unit made up of 150 gay couples from Thebes called the Sacred Band. At the Battle of Leuctra in 371 BC, these 300 gay warriors led the Theban army against the Spartan army. The gay led Thebans won the battle so that should be a smash with the woke left.
It seems that Hollywood hasn't changed course after more than a few disasters, but they seem to be happy with the current formula so they might as well go for gold with the above idea.

If I remember aright the Thebans were led b Epaminondas at Leuctra. Some of his allies fled before the battle. He used the weighted flank formation against the Spartans, a tactic which must have been obvious to them but they were too much stick in the mud traditionalists to change their standard formation. And that essentially lost them the battle before it was even fought.
Kings and Gererals cover this battle on their youtube channel in great infographic style.
In Lion of Macedon David Gemmell ascribes the use of this tactic at Leuctra to Parmenion.

Seriously, I can't think of anything else that I would do with Spartacus, seems the story was already told, anything else is just stretching bullshit.
I really liked the Czech American co production of the Knightfall series set in the High middle ages, maybe something centred around the late medieval mercenary bands that fought in central Europe would be interesting.

That would be a fantsatic idea! the history of Central Europe/the Balkans is fascinating and unknown to many outside the region. I got drawn into it via Harold Lamb's "the grand Cham" (the Crusade of Nicopolis) and the real Dracula.

John Hunyadi, voivode of Transylvania and the southern counties in the 1400's, his campaigns against the Ottomans, also internal struggles, in that part of Europe, that could be epic. Corvin Castle, also known as Hunyad Castle in Romania.

Took the kids to see a German film, called 'Erbe des Drachens' and it was set in Romania. Must be it.
