John Jakes passed away this week at the age of 90. Before he became better-known for his historical sagas, Jakes wrote Westerns, Science-Fiction and Sword and Sorcery. Many will of course remember Brak the Barbarian, but also the standalone Mention My Name In Atlantis and the world-hopping Dark Gate novels (which I have never read or even seen for sale).

As someone looking for more like Conan , Brak helped fill the gap. When North and South aired over here I was really surprised that he was the same guy! LOL

I wonder if that rumored final Brak novel is going to be released now?

RIP, I am aware of John Jakes Brak, but only read 2 stories of it. One in a 1950's magazine from the Internet Archive and I believe one Brak tale was adapted in Savage Tales. Enjoyed both stories.

Many of you would know that John Jakes plotted issue #13 of Conan the Barbarian "Web of the Spider-God", or know that the first chronological Brak story "The Unspeakable Shrine" was adapted in Savage Tales. But how many knew about this short Brak story, "Spell of the Dragon", from Chamber of Chills #2? atocom.blogspot.com/2018/09/wednesday-worlds-of-wonder-brak.html
