The British star also was known for his turns in 'Punisher: War Zone' and 'Rome' and was recently tapped for a turn in 'Star Wars' series 'Ahsoka.'

Ray Stevenson, the burly British actor who starred as Volstagg in the Thor movies and as the brutally evil governor in the recent Oscar-winning Indian hit RRR, has died. He was 58.

Sorry to hear that.

I knew of him mostly as Blackbeard from Starz Black Sails. He wasn't in that many episodes but his imposing presence was very distinctive and memorable - the sort of actor whose performance in the role you remember long after.

Sad news indeed.

Damn, that's so sad. Became a fan during Rome on HBO. Sad to see.

At 58, relatively young, wonder what brought that sudden death on. 

Remember him from Punisher War Zone, actually like his portrayal of Marvel' s vigilante, better than Thomas Jane in my opinion.
