I have just seen the REH Award nominations, where Charles Hoffman’s collection of essays, „Beyond the Black Stranger and Others” was included. Hoffman has written many insightful essays on REH, my favourite is „Return to Xuthal”.
Have any of you read this new book? Would you recommend it?
I see there is a short essay titled "The Twins: An Appreciation" where he once again looks at two Conan adventures, The Pool of the Black One and Xuthal of the Dusk. However, this essay seems to be really short, maybe it is just a summary of his previous essays on these stories.
I have to admit that “Beyond the Black River,” and “The Black Stranger,” are not my favourite stories, and the central piece seems to examine them. Do you think there are enough new insights in these essays?
