It's John Milius' birthday. I'm not a big fan of Milius' CtB82. That said, I think he's written and directed a lot of cool films. A fine write-up here, from someone who met the man: frontierpartisans.com/6174/milius/

He certainly is a unique talent. Anyone that can have their hand in Magnum Force, The Wind and the Lion, Apocalypse Now and 1941 is a one of a kind!

Milius turned al-Raisuli (a scumbag) into one of the great cinematic heroes (IMO). Milius somehow couldn't do the same for one of the great literary heroes created by REH.

Milius is one of my all time favorite filmmakers, largely because of CTB 82. But I also like Red Dawn a lot, but Big Wednesday was surprisingly engaging and moving, and actually made me give a damn about surfing.

Good interview. I loved this quote: "Well, people talk about it all the time…you know George Lucas talks about it [myth] all the time. He doesn’t know how to use it at all. He doesn’t understand myth at all. As illustrated by Phantom Menace. Writers who really understand myth don’t use it consciously. There are very few things that are truly mythical. There’s a lot of stuff that’s famous, but very few things that are the stuff of myth and legend."

I'd love to read his GENGHIS KHAN script if it never gets made. If anyone can do justice to the man it's Milius.

I'd love to read his GENGHIS KHAN script if it never gets made. If anyone can do justice to the man it's Milius. When Milius is working with a historical subject, like the Rough Riders, he usually does a damn good job. Things may not be all that accurate historically, but the script will be cool for what it is.

Milius's Dillinger is my favorite depression era outlaw flick. Warren Oates is awesome as always.
