It's been brought to my attention that the original contract was with Paradox. Fredrik Malmberg/Cabinet Holdings now controls the Conan IP, so it is just possible that Fred might renogotiate with Universal. Considering Ahnuldt's post-divorce box office performance, I would say Cabinet would be wise to jump and find a new star and (possibly) director. We should hear something soon. This has been a slow-motion train-wreck.I hope this is finally over. I think you're correct they probably need a new actor to portray Conan, and a director with the vision to take on the project. This time they should write a screenplay actually based on a REH Conan tale. Negotiate with Marvel. Let's quit f***ing around and do this right!

Looks like King Clownan is in developmental hell as well as that sequel to Twins. A while ago I was virtually certain that the Legend of Conan project had been greenlit, they had a good script and were in the process of searching for a director. One announcement was made in January and then I believe it was in March that Arnie was interviewed and spoke about the project. It was videoed and uploaded to the Arnold Fans website. I thought the fact that Chronicle Collectibles was launching a massive recreation of the King Conan image (the last image in the 1982 film) was even more evidence in support of the upcoming project. But I feel rather chagrined and must admit that everyone involved seems to have been rather mum since then. My conclusion is, sadly, that the film is far from certain to go ahead. I would just like to mention that Arnold's son by his former housekeeper (what is his name - Joseph Baesa, or something like that), is a virtual dead ringer for his dad, with a gorgeous bod, tho not as muscular as his dad was in his prime. But the guy looks fantastic, besides being a chip off the old block, and if he could only act (at least as well as Arnold ;-)), that might provide fascinating fodder for a magnificent film project featuring the two of them - whether they portray father and son or whether the boy portrays a youthful Conan in a prequel of some sort. I would certainly like to see him utilized in some way, as his appearance seems to be a fortuitous gift of the film gods that doesn't come along very often and should be made the most of. Just a thought. :-) Valeria Spirit t Here is the kid, Joseph Baena, along with his dad. The one with the football is the older of the two photos. I think they could make a terrific pair - either as Conan father and his son, or using him to tell Conan's backstory - in effect, making it the main story, perhaps forging the first of a franchise, if they can do it right. That assumes, of course, that the kid has talent. Despite the tendency of some around her to disparage Arnold's work, other than the fact of his accent you can cut with a knife, he is in fact a skilled actor. I was reading not long ago that James Cameron, before Terminator began filming, strenuously objected to casting Arnold in the role - until the two of them had lunch, and Arnold sold him completely on his conception of the character. I am still panting to see the next Arnold iteration of REH's creation. TTFN :-) Valeria Spirit

As of today, per the contract with Universal, the film rights revert back to Cabinet/Paradox. The studio has not "greenlit" the film by today, which is a stipulation of the contract. Thus, no "Conan the Conqueror".

I don't want to watch a movie written as a vehicle for Old King Arnold. It won't be Conan.

universal dont seem to give a sh#t about the conaaaan franchise? paradox-cabinet seem absolutely desperate to be screwed again by the vicious mainstream film industry? [ lionsgate are still smirking ] they should explore good advice about cheap independent filmmakers? [ the 'bone tomahawk' film success is a good example of low budget. they made it for 1/6th of what mainstream had quoted them. ] does the wide world of film-goers care about another 'barbarian-sword-n-corny-slop' film? is conan the biggest boring joke in the fantasy film world? ---- (( does posting in huge font size mean that your eyesight is getting worse?? ))

I agree. I don't want to watch a movie written as a vehicle for Old King Arnold. It won't be Conan. Absolutely. And it continues to amaze me that even after LOTR, The Hobbit, GOT, etc etc etc we still can't get a decent movie representation of the most iconic S&S hero

I'd rather watch 'Iron Shadows,' it may be low budget, but, at least it's an adaptation.

The first Conan was ok. It wasn't faithful but on it's own merit it was a fun romp. Haven't seen destroyer and don't intend to.
Taraniach a while back said that he thought that they should do the final Arnold film if only so that once fans get closure they might FINALLY be open to more faithful stories.
If they do do a Conan adaptation they may need to tweak elements (merge stories for instance)

I've said it before (at the old board) and I'll repeat myself here: no Arnie, Arnie children or Arnie clones. Every other famous hero can get recast, so can Conan.

And that is the reason that they are reconsidering going with the 69-year-old Schwarzenegger. But it helps that he is talented and dependable. BTW, people say, "Look at his most recent films - they haven't been all that successful." For example, I wasn't all that fond of Terminator: Genysis. But I loved Arnold's character, thought it was the best part of the film, and found that even some of the negative reviews praised his performance. I love his repeated refrain, "I'm old but I'm not obsolete" - a line which seems more and more appropriate for me personally. Bring on Arnold and Arnie "Jr."! Valeria Spirit

Valeria Spirit Yes, the last Conan film failed, and with good reason; it was not very good. But it did not fail due to casting Jason Mamoa as Conan. He has been mostly praised for his portrayal of our favorite Cimmerian. It was a directorial failure and a production f**k up. Start from scratch, recast and reboot with a group of artists who know how to get it done; Marvel.
