with recent conaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan films - the 'hideous-and-unbelievable-thing' is the entire stupid script ! just make an exciting Slaine film and leave film-conaaaaaaaan to rot and 'recover' for 10 years. [ arnie-pop could play a perverted evil old king - for Slaine to slay? ]

This project is so dead, it would take the likes of Victor Frankenstein to get this up and running!😜🎃

Frustrated at Universal Studios' reluctance to invest in the new CONAN movie, Arnold Schwarzenegger has begun filming it himself. "It's going to be fantastic." he says. He's posting selfies on Instagram using his Conan sword as a selfie stick. Stay tuned.

Is he filming with his phone on the end of the sword? I guess I'll have to follow him now.

I guess he's hoping to finance it via his Apprentice paychecks which ironically is paid for by NBC, which has the same parent company as...Universal!

A Conan film featuring Arnold as the Cimmerian simply isn't going to happen. At Arnold's age now, every day that slips by without actually shooting film makes this project less and less likely. Besides, if it happened it would be an Arnold film, not a Conan film and we really don't need it. I still have my fingers crossed for a big-budget 10 episode mini-series produced by HBO or Starz with an unknown actor in the lead; here's hoping!
I still believe a REH themed anthology collection of short fiction could be a way of stirring up interest in future Conan/REH film projects. Invite the best of current fantasy/horror/adventure writers out there to take a stab at a REH created character in the form of a short story or novella and mix them all together in one big collection. "The Savage Worlds of Robert E Howard". Sigh...it appears I've completely derailed from the thread...

I'd rather see Mamoa come back with a quality script this time around. Maybe actually showing him become King (using KEW Day of the Lion outline maybe), then lead into a series of King Conan films adapted from the REH tales. Probably not going to happen given Mamoa's schedule, but I think it's more likely than seeing Arnold as Conan again.

Ever since the 2011 reboot of “Conan the Barbarian” flopped, rumors of a direct sequel to the original 80’s films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger have made rounds on the Internet from time to time. More recently, a project entitled “Legend of Conan” seemed poised to become a reality, which would have seen the former Governor of California reprising his role for one last ride as the Cimmerian warrior. News of the project has been sparse for a while, and unfortunately, it’s because of what many Conan fans suspected — the movie is no longer in the cards. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, screenwriter Chris Morgan opened up a bit about the failed sequel while promoting a different franchise sequel, “Fate of the Furious.” “At the end of the day, the studio decided that they weren’t gonna make that. I gotta say, it’s honestly a heartbreak. I love that first movie so much, so much, it’s one of my favorite movies,” Morgan explained before recounting the story’s outline. “We had Will Beall do a draft on [the ‘Legend of Conan’ script]. He killed it. Our take was Conan, 30 years later, a story like the Clint Eastwood Unforgiven. It was so awesome.” In the end, however, the studio decided to pass for a number of reasons, though the anticipated production and marketing cost was at the top of the list. “Ultimately, the budget was big, the studio was not really sure of the title, and the relevance in the marketplace,” Morgan said. “They ended up letting it go,” said Morgan. “But just to be associated with it, pitch it to Arnold, have him get so excited, there was a moment of magic for me, personally [laughs]. You never know, down the road we may revisit!” While that’s certainly a bummer for sword-and-sandal fans, Morgan let slip a bit of info to keep hopes alive, saying, “I think they’re gonna look to do a TV show or something with it.” Schwarzenegger swinging a sword on the small screen is probably unlikely, but hopefully something good will come out of it all in the not-too-distant-future. www.cbr.com/arnold-schwarzenegger-legend-of-conan-canceled/

No, cbr, please don't try to "give us hope." It's done, put it to bed and move onto something else. Going back to what should have happened after the last Conan film, you're going to need a name with clout in the current environment to get a project like this going forward on the right track. Someone fitting that description would be...Jason Momoa.

If they can't get an Arnold sequel off the ground, they sure as hell won't touch Momoa after CtB 2011 tanked hard.
