A look at Leigh's "Old Solar System" tales that also discusses her similarities to ERB and REH -- though the blogger doesn't seem to have ever read any Merritt or know Brackett was a fan. Good stuff: www.solarsystemheritage.com/leigh-brackett.html

This is a tough, intense detective novel and not easy to find in paperback. I read the only copy I've ever found, then gave it to Leigh Brackett super-fan, Howard Andrew Jones. The story is pretty good, but the ending is a great noir sucker-punch and the whole thing is salted with tasty lines like... "She wore something loose, Nile green, and pretty slinky, only she didn't have much to slink with." When it came to prose and dialogue Brackett could sit at the table with the best of the Black Mask boys.

The original Frank Mccarthy movie poster art for Hatari! I think you could make a strong argument that this film contains the most famous song in any John Wayne film.
This has been appearing frequently in recent months on the Movies! digital subchannel in a nice compact three and a half hour time period. My girlfriend and I were watching it around 10p one time it was on and I said "Oh, it's only got another hour and half to go!" She said "How could it possibly be that long, they're just catching animals!" Then a few nights later El Dorado was on and I tried to tell her how they were sort of the same movie done by the same director, same writer and same star, and they'd done the movie a couple times before and did it one more time in the 70s.

Tim Truman did the pic below for a video game startup that never happened. It immediately struck me how it could've been done for one of Leigh's Martian tales. Her desert nomads of Kesh and Shun are often veiled and ride reptilian "lopers" that are never really described. Just imagine Truman doing an adaptation of The Secret of Sinharat/ Queen of the Martian Catacombs. I'd love to see him tackle Eric John Stark. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Secret_of_Sinharat

The Frank Kelly Freas cover painting for Brackett's "The Ark of Mars" from the Summer 1954 issue of Planet Stories.

Citadel of Lost Ages is an excellent tale from Brackett. Unfortunately, I can't find a review anywhere, which is kind of baffling.

Leigh Brackett could really spin a tale...what an imagination she had
