How about "reimagining" Tarzan by going back to the actual Burroughs character and stories. There are dozens of Tarzan movies and TV series yet just about the only adaptation that included the more fantastic elements of the original novels was "Tarzan: The Epic Adventures" starring Joe Lara. I would like to see somthing like that with 20 times the budget, a better screenwriter and a better actor. Hard to believe but after the silent films those are the most faithful adaptations. They did botch the ending of Forbidden City though. I started watching Tarzan the epic adventures based on this recommendation last night and I have to say it’s really good. It’s available for free on Tubi for those interested.

Cool, I'll have to check those out given what you and johnny are saying. I can't recall that being on television (same with the Conan the Adventurer live-action series) but would have watched it had I known. I'm going to be doing an additional video to clear up some misconceptions about this new Tarzan movie and overall misconceptions about the ape man.

Some of the special effects are dated, especially in the intro, but the story is good.

Setting the record straight:

Setting the record straight: One little tweak on the profit, there's also the cut for theaters that comes out of that number so it probably came closer to breaking even or a small profit. But the point is still the same, it was NOT a box office bomb. I considered it a surprise success, it made the top 5 its debut week and hung around for 6 or 7 weeks. These days that's a huge amount of time. It is stunning to think that practically all of the silent films were based in one way or another on one of the first 10 books (I think Tarzan the Mighty was the only original one but they can't find it so we'll never know for sure). Then it took until 1984 for them to go back to the books at all.

Weissmuller is of course my favorite Tarzan, but Skarsgård is right behind him because he is the most similar to the Tarzan from the comics I loved.
Here are all the actors who played Tarzan:
Maureen is still no 1 Jane even though I was confused as a kid when I read in the Tarzan novel that Jane has blonde hair.
Here is a list of all the ladies who played Jane:
Sorry Margot, but Bo is still the best modern Jane.

I like Gordon Scott. His movies may not be the best but he does look like Tarzan (and he can speak...)

Bo and Maureen's body double are the only Janes without any clothes on in a Tarzan film

I like Gordon Scott. His movies may not be the best but he does look like Tarzan (and he can speak...) The first 4 he did, he was the good old non speaking Tarzan, but starting with Greatest Adventure, they had him start speaking normally and other than Miles and the Disney film, that's basically the way he's been portrayed ever since. So we had 25 years of "dumb" Tarzan (with Herman Brix/Bruce Bennett mixed in) and 60 years of "smart" Tarzan, but which one still is in the popular culture?

Mike Henry still my favorite Tarzan, would have made a hell of a Conan too.

More than once I've heard my father - who has never read any of the ERB books - say that Weissmuller was the real Tarzan, which makes me recoil :-)

Those Mike Henry clips are everything we would need in a modern Tarzan movie. A fit Tarzan rescuing a busty woman not named Jane (seriously, no Jane in the new movies). The only problem is him smacking around the native. I don't think that would fly today.
Mike Henry does look the part, though. Too bad he wasn't able to do the tv show. I like Ron Ely, but Henry was superior.

What Tarzan movie is that from?, the action scene actually looks pretty elaborate for a 60's/70? movie.
