I have a soft spot for action movies good and bad, so it was only a matter of time before I watched the Sylvester Stallone flick, Bullet to the Head. It’s directed by Walter Hill, who gave us Hard Times, 48 Hours, The Long Riders, Extreme Prejudice, and The Warriors. In truth, it’s not in the same league as the director’s better efforts, but it has some memorable scenes, especially those with Jason Momoa, who makes a pretty riveting villain. What prompted me to write this was the contents of a flash drive the characters are fighting over. It contains a list of names, and this list is momentarily brought up on screen as the characters check it out. None of the names briefly revealed have any impact on the story, but this unimportant moment stopped the show for me. I paused the disc.
The first name, upper left, is R.E. Howard. Much of the rest of the names appear to be random, but there are jokes (N. Abler, L. Sipher), and a collection of genre authors and artists in the mix.
I’m sure I’m missing many, but these jumped out and amused me: A. Doyle, T. Truman, H. Nergal (Hand?), O. Card, J. Picacio, F. Herbert, R. Kirk (Russell?), S. King, C. Mandalor, A. Isaac, W. Gibson, A. Jodorowski, J. Jimenez, R. Douglas & D. Preston (right next to each other), and N. Stephenson. If I had the tech savvy I’d post a screen shot, but the list can be seen 58 minutes and 38 seconds into the film.
This is a fine example of the kind of thing I notice that isn't worth even bringing up, much less trying to explain, to normal humans.

Cool. I have watched this movie twice, and never noticed the names on the list. I do not own a copy, but I will soon; this is a pretty good flick and Jason steals the show whenever he is onscreen. The ax fight is impressive, if a little fancy. In almost everything I have seen him in, he usually shows off a little fancy hand coordination involving weapons; ax, sword, knife or guns. I have even seen it in the Frontier tv series. Yes, Jason is still the best Conan ever.

Hill being a Howard fan wouldn't surprise me. At all.

Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that, though I had originally just assumed it was coincidence. I think Momoa is a bit of a Howard fan himself, and the axe fight and the way Momoa's character ignites it hints of Howardian sentiment.

Here's one from youtube. They altered the timing of the video and flipped the movie horizontally, I still managed to find the shot and re-adjust the shot with preview. (Just noticed that H. Nergal is obscured by the red bar) Enjoy!
