Ah. Good. I was wondering how many issues this one would run. I guess I'll round it out, but Ching's cartoony art just hasn't done much for me. It's good for BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA. Not really seeing it as a match for CONAN.

I'm guessing they're going to continue the series under a different title. Conan the Adventurer? Conan the Wanderer? Conan the Reaver? HopefullY Van Lente sticks around, though. His writing has been refreshing after Wood's QOTBC fiasco.

Indeed. He made some changes (a few times the comedy felt forced, making Xuthal near stygia/shem) but he got the character.

Maybe Bisley can take over cover duty if they do another series.

I hope they keep Fred as writer if they do another series, as with the many the current art is just not good enough. the covers need to be more audience grabbing and need to generate some excitement in any potential new audience which is what we need for the title to be continued by DH. I think the upcoming story in DHP 21 is a spill over from REH's SS as I spoke to my comics supplier and they confirmed that this title has been cancelled although I can find nothing on DH's website.

Damn, I wonder if they are going to use those stories that are already finished and just put them in DHP. I guess, it would get me to start buying DHP again. The last time I bought an issue of that was when Grell did that 3-part Tarzan and the Gods of Opar story last year.

I think a major part of the problem is the lack of promotion of the character or the titles he is featured in. i'm guessing that part of the problem (for me) in supporting ReH's SS was the fact of it's price vs the amount of reprint material that I already have. I bought all 10 issues and it had some good points, but was it value for money? so, I would question whether they would add parts of reprint filler into a newish title that they would want to promote new or existing DH owned characters to complete any hangover story parts. You only have to look at the hash Marvel made of the hour of the dragon in its release, or the un-finished conan story from Conan the Savage and I think there are others which other members may be remember, so unfortunately there is a precedent for this not to happen.

Given that even with the lack of promotion Conan still sells better than most of their brands (only the buffy brands and MAYBE dragon age are doing better) I still think they'll have to hold on to it. At the very least they're more likely to ditch EVE before they ditch conan. And maybe with better promotion the series can turn around and at the very least hit 8000.

as much as I want Conan to succeed at DH, I think its continuance does hang on the tails of other titles like Harrow County and the re-launch of Aliens which are being actively promoted/talked about especially with the upcoming tv series and film (not sure on release dates though). I guess dh only has so much to spend in terms of time and money. I mean dh's own page on Conan is often only updated months apart, there is just no buzz coming from their own website.

The Dark Horse Conan comics haven't been doing it for me for some time. It hasn't sucked, but something's just not there.
I don't have any suggestions for them but I hope the next series starts hitting on all cylinders.

Too bad Bisley can't do the interior art! Imagine a Slaine-style book, but Conan instead. No thanks, unless Bisley could tone down the distorted grotesqueness. From what I've seen of his Conan illustrations, he's certainly capable of doing so. And I think he'd sort of have to, since the world of Conan isn't quite as insane as Slaine's (for instance, Conan doesn't twist into a chaotic warp-spasm).

I'd take Bisley on his worst day over Ching on his best day IMO. Absolutely nothing against Ching, I'm not fit to hold his pencil, but he's the wrong artist for a Conan comic.
I wouldn't mind seeing Bisley do a two-part mini ala the Bart Sears one from a few years back. What was that? Conan: The Island? I enjoyed that.
