the shock of the alien invasion was quite severe. The sky was filled with large diamond shaped objects which glittered even greater than diamonds. Everyone was filled with fear and they ran this way and that, talking frantically with their neighbors.
John J Ernst went about his business watering his little garden, cutting the grass, and tinkering with his old Ford. It was almost like he knew something. The neighbors began to talk, whisper and point. John paid them no attention. He trimmed the hedge and mumbled to himself about this and that.
The giant diamonds in the sky eventually began speaking. Loud voices demanded surrender and subjection to the new entities from the stars. The voices were ominous and threatening. John occasionally cocked an ear before going about his business. Everyone was in a panic. The military tired to shoot down the diamonds but their shells only bounced off or simply exploded without effect. Finally the government of most nations perhaps wisely ran and hid in underground bunkers and caverns. TV ceased to broadcast and only a few radio stations kept at it.
At last objects separated themselves from the huge diamond things. These were some type of shiny flying machines. They landed and twelve foot tall alien creatures left these machines and stalked about sending everyone into mad flight. Everyone except John. The aliens stalked about shouting commands and firing rayguns. They burned down all the government offices, churches, schools, anything that suggested some type of authority.
The people fled about crashing their cars into one another, crying, and praying madly.
Finally John shrugged and went into the house. He came out a few minutes later with a weird sort of wobbly looking stand. Once he had the thing properly set up he went in again. Then he came out with a strange looking blue globe that he placed on the stand.
Satisfied that all was in readiness, John stood back a bit and took something out of his pocket that resembled a remote control. He pressed a few buttons and the blue globe began to glow brightly. John stood back with his arms crossed and watched with great interest. At last a thousand beams of intense blue light shot out and streaked across the skies. The huge diamonds were bombarded by these beams and each shuddered mightily before exploding with a shattering crash. This continued until only a mere handful of diamonds remained.
The aliens hurried to their smaller crafts and fled back to the few remaining diamonds. In a matter of moments the aliens and their diamonds vanished. John looked heavenward and nodded in approval. Then he returned his globe and its stand back to the garage or wherever he had kept the strange object.
John returned to his puttering in the yard. A half hour later a pal dropped by and struck up a conversation. "I wonder where those chaps in the diamond things came from?" The friend asked.
"Who knows," John answered. "I suppose some idiots will never accept that this planet was claimed by mars centuries ago, there ought to be a law."
