Contrary to assertions by de Camp, Moorcock and others, REH was no homebody. Even excluding the numerous places Howard lived as a child and travels with his parents, Bob did a fair amount of wandering on his own. He traveled all over Texas -- which is about the size of France. He also traveled outside the state, including crossing over to Mexico.
Rob Roehm has made it one of his life's goals to visit everywhere REH ever went.

I'd say he travelled about as much as he could in his circumstances, and would likely have travelled much more widely too...

When doing the letters index, I joked that you could make a fair map of Texas based solely on REH's letters.

Bobby Derie looks at REH's wanderings on the Mexican border, which lay far, far away from Cross Plains:

I had to keep it pretty short, but anybody that got a copy of the Essays at Howard Days, the full paper is in there.
