Dynamite's Publisher: Okay, we're still paying for the Red Sonja license and we need to cross her over with somebody. What do you guys got? Stooge: Savage Avengers is popular with Conan with the modern Marvel heroes... Publisher: Do we have any modern superheroes licensed? Stooge: No but we co-opted Golden Age public domain superheroes and had Alex Ross put his own spin on them via Project Superpowers bringing them into the modern era, so we now own them.... Publisher: Green light! Sometimes I look at these "crossovers" or stories and think to myself, is it really that easy to get paid for something you so haphazardly throw together. Take a look at the battle for the serpent crown with Conan. Not only did they really get the character wrong and shoehorned a bunch of unnecessary superheroes just for the sake of a crossover, the story was bad and very anticlimactic. That ending didn't really do much and if it was hinting at a follow up or sequel, I simply won't read it. I never thought I'd be so bored at a Conan story. I think some of us in this forum would honestly write a way better story for a lesser pay than Marvel gives to their writers:D . Dynamite is honestly ruining Sonja with all these crossovers as well IMO (This coming from the guy that loved to see Conan fight Captain America and Wolverine in What if..?). I think if Marvel got the rights back to Red Sonja maybe they can make stories with her and Conan in the Hyborian age. That would be nice unless they royally mess it up just for the general market appeal.

Might be worth at least checking out. Red Sonja to cross swords with superheroes in new series 'Set to serve as a companion to the upcoming Vampirella: The Dark Powers, Dynamite Entertainment has announced that the She-Devil with a Sword will be swapping the sword and sorcery of the Hyborean Age for the spandex and capes of superheroes this January with the new series Red Sonja: The Superpowers.' www.flickeringmyth.com/2020/10/red-sonja-cross-swords-with-superheroes-in-new-series/I can picture the Dynamite staff meeting... I suppose it is a kind of Savage Avengers knock off.

Right but I don't think that's anywhere near a good idea. Do they make enough money off of these comics to keep them running?

After DC Bloodbath II – What's Going On At DC Comics Today?by Rich Johnson: There is an all-hands-on-deck meeting taking place at DC Comics today, with those who are remaining. There will have to be a lot of job changes – even though with all the NDAs, no one can actually talk about their lost jobs or their new jobs publicly for some time. People can't even update their LinkedIn accounts without losing their redundancy payments.
Daniel Cherry III, newly appointed DC Comics General Manager, is doing exactly what he was brought in to DC by Warner Bros President Pamela Lifford to do, to calculate corporate downsizing, assess minimum requirements, fire the highest paid people, promote the juniors with small raises, imply "you're lucky to still have a job in this economy" and cut freelance rates and commitments.
It is also notable that Marie Javins as EIC is reporting directly to Cherry rather than to DC Comics Publisher and CCO Jim Lee. Lee has denied earlier rumours that he was planning to transition out of DC in 2020, but this does seem to cut him out of the editorial loop. I have been informed that DC Comics' YA original graphic novel editors are being reassigned, nicknamed Javins' "lieutenants".
Bleeding Cool wishes to extend our good wishes to all those both leaving and staying at the publisher. It's a horrible time for this to be happening to anyone.

Diamond Comic Distributors Closes New Memphis WarehouseComic book publishers were told yesterday and comic book retailers will be told at the ComicsPRO retailer summit today that Diamond Comic Distributors is closing their New Memphis, Tennessee warehouse and distribution centre, with all functions transferring to their Olive Branch, Mississippi distribution centre. It is understood that this is a direct result of DC Comics leaving Diamond in favour of Lunar Distribution – though they still use Diamond for UK and European distribution.Wanna read more? bleedingcool.com/comics/diamond-comic-distributors-closes-new-memphis-warehouse/

Diamond Reduces Publishers Ability To Make Variant Covers Returnable
Since the pandemic, lockdown and shutdowns that affected the comic book industry, a number of comic book publishers increased the amount of comic books that they made returnable to comic book stores. The idea was to protect retailers from sudden changes of demand due to stores having to close, customers not able to shop and economic strictures being imposed. Of late some publishers have reduced that returnability but it still remains at a greater level than it once was.
One result is that it has been easier for retailers to order tiered variant covers at 1:50, 1:100, even 1:1000 if they are free to return the overordered amounts. But with more and more variant covers, the process of returning comics has become harder and harder, with even the cost that Diamond Comic Distributors charges for making a comic returnable, not covering the process.

Deadpool Manga is Marvel's Most Read Book of 2021
Deadpool doesn't have his own Marvel series going on right now, but he does have a manga, and it is so popular it is Marvel's most-read book of 2021.
BY TESSA SMITH While Deadpool doesn't have his own Marvel series going on right now, but he does have a manga series in Japan, and it is so popular that it is Marvel's most-read book of 2021. Launching last year in Japan, Deadpool: Samurai by Sanshirou Kasama and Hikaru Uesugi, a Shonen Jump+ series, is confirmed to be a part of the Marvel Universe continuity - meaning whatever happens in it could have repercussions in the entire Marvel Universe. This series all started with a one-shot back in 2019 and expanded to a series in December of 2020.Deadpool first appeared in The New Mutants #98 in February of 1991. He was created by writer Fabian Nicieza and artist/writer Rob Liefeld. He started as a supervillain in this series as well as X-Force, but later grew and developed into the fourth-wall-breaking hero that fans now know and love from the titular films starring Ryan Reynolds.Deadpool: Samurai transports the popular hero back to feudal Japan, which fans have clearly taken a liking to. The first and second chapters have already been read over one million times, with the rest of the chapters following closely behind. For comparison purposes, the last North American comic book release to ship over one million copies was Star Wars #1 back in 2015. This was the first time in nearly two decades that a book hit these bestselling numbers. The American comic book that shipped the most copies in 2020 was Wolverine #1, coming in with 196,441 estimated copies. The Merc with a Mouth's real name is Wade Wilson and is one of the most popular Marvel characters due to his tendency to break the fourth wall. He knows he is in a comic book, and often pokes fun at other characters, and himself. This is a trait that Reynolds brought to the movies with him when he took up the mantle of Deadpool, often addressing the audience while looking directly into the camera. It is this humor that draws the attention of fans from all over the world. It should be noted that Deadpool: Samurai has an advantage over other Marvel comic books because it is free to read on the Shonen Jump+ app. The online magazine features Japanese comic books and graphic novels, or manga, in their native language, so this series is not yet available to read in English. Unfortunately, no American release of this series has been announced yet - but given the success of the Deadpool series, it would be shocking if Marvel never translated it.Source: screenrant.com/deadpool-samurai-manga-most-read-marvel-2021/

CBR's headline makes it sound more like a normal deal: Diamond Strikes Deal to Distribute Marvel From Penguin Random House
Like it was Diamond's idea to give up exclusivity! Though if you're exclusive to one company but can still get them from someplace else...I guess it doesn't mean what it used to mean. Strange times...

In the UK, the DC Comics are distributed by Diamond UK. I guess in October, it'll be the same with the Marvel books on this side of the pond. It's gonna be tough for Diamond to survive this, what they gonna end up selling? Toys and stuff? Some retailers could stay loyal initially, but I think they will eventually switch to Random House for their comics. It could prove even tougher for some of the Indie publishers.

If you're doing Heavy Metal magazine and it doesn't make you think of this: you're doing it wrong.
