The Manga section at the Forbidden Planet Megastore in London has expanded way into the area previously devoted to the American comics. I know Manga sells so I asked a member of staff 'what's going on with the Manga taking over all Marvel and DC stuff?' He simply explained that the Manga sells and American comics don't and that the Manga section will expand even further into the new American comics section. Forbidden Planet have stores throughout the UK, it looks they will not take the risk with American comics anymore, that is really bad news for comics in the UK. When I was at Forbidden Plant the manga section was full with young collectors actually buying stuff and talking about the anime with their friends and the store is finding difficult to keep up with restocking the shelves. Unfortunately, the complete opposite in the section devoted to the American comics. I think the main problem is that Marvel and DC comics are just not accessible enough for a new reader, it is too difficult to work out as a collector. With Manga, all comics are numbered with uniformed spines that I think is a lot more desirable for a collector and look better on the ol' bookshelf. It is not looking good for DC & Marvel right now. I do not think it has much to do with the content, it has just run its course and it is time for comics to change. They need to work on their marketing and have a back log of excellent material that needs to be repackaged and numbered and made desirable, the sales are there. For example, the omnibus editions have been selling extremely well for Marvel with the majority of X-men titles selling out at the pre-order stage both in the Direct-Market and Book market, several volumes will be reprinted later on this year and early next year. Even the Excalibur omnibus & the Ben Reilly Spider-Man omnibus sold out. The 7th Conan omnibus editions will be available early next year, 7 volumes! Before Marvel reacquired Conan they would never take that kinda risk with omnis, not with Spider-man, not with the X-men, Wolverine was stuck at the 1st volume for years. But now that has all changed. If they continue to expand their Epic Collection line with numbers on the spine and gradually phase out the other graphic novels by integrating them into the Epic collection line people will wanna collect them. It helps if you make your products desirable so that customers will proudly display their collection at home, not hide them in long-boxes in the loft or basement. A nice uniform set of books look great on the shelf. The new comics or better still Original Graphic Novels will have to adapt towards their gradual addition to the Epic Collection, they have to phase out the old comics, eventually.

My son has been on a Masterworks kick since last summer, he’s gone through Spider Man, X-Men old and new, Avengers, Defenders, Daredevil and now he’s on Sub Mariner. He has zero interest in any of the new material. Right now I think Cory may be the most important person at Marvel and he’s technically a freelancer these days. They are kicking into overdrive with omnibus reprintings so I think they’re aware of the market and will continue tapping into it.

35 years of tradition. Then, completely change your formula for woke points and insult the fans who aren't on board. Bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for em'.
If you're doing Heavy Metal magazine and it doesn't make you think of this: you're doing it wrong. Agreed. I honestly didn't think Heavy Metal magazine was around anymore. reboot?

Heavy Metal has not changed anything. Just look at a couple of the upcoming covers: 30th June 21st July ..and the cover from March I think they're (Clownfish and some other YouTube channels) exaggerating a little bit because of an exchange on twitter over a character that hardly anyone knows that will wear al little bit of armour in an upcoming issue.

Heavy Metal has not changed anything. That's reassuring! That Ken Kelly cover kicks ass.

They also had a Frazetta cover a couple of months ago, not enough on Frazetta inside so I did not pick it up. Especially at that price!

Those covers are amazing, maybe a I should get back into Heavy Metal for some weird and out there story lines. Ever since I read Marvel's Old Man Logan run I have been reading everything to do with the Marvel's wastelands and future imperfect worlds. Currently Maestro: War & Pax.

For Doctor Doom fans they should try the Doctor Doom Crack of Doom run. Doom is set up and blamed for the destruction of a moon base. I don't know about this one, I just can't relate to the portrayal of the character at all in this series, seems like an insecure fool, for instance going bat shit over Reed Richards wishing him the best of luck on some mission. Look at his obsession with semantics. How his Latverian subjects put up with this maniac is beyond me.

Summer 2021 found comic-book sales at one of their highest points in the last 25 years. The Top 300 comics sold at least 24.2 million copies in June-August, more than any summer quarter except 2016 ("DC Rebirth") and 1997 (which had twice as many stores). www.comichron.com/yearlycomicssales.html

But a healthy market can handle some lower selling books...like Conan unfortunately. For how long? We'll have to see.

I piss in the face of this trash. The people pushing these smoldering piles of filth can go straight to hell.

Don't see the problem! If you don't like it don't buy it , but for those interested in reading it , it's there for them. Personally I have no interest in it.

Yeah, right...just what impressionable kids need. After the "We're Coming for Your Children" San Diego Gay Men's choir video, the mountain of other programming that has flooded media in the past few years celebrating this stuff, Drag Queen Story Hour for Toddlers- the LGBTQ community sure does have an EXTREME interest in pushing their agenda on kids. I wonder why that would be.
By the way, have you looked at any statistics lately. You know, stuff that goes on in the LGBTQ community that pertains to kids?
