some of my favorite old dc comics include Doom Patrol, Tomahawk, and Hawk and Dove...I also liked all the stuff in the old Superman comics...especially that city Superman kept in a jar...He would shrink himself occasionally and go down there for an adventure...and I loved the stories about the superman robots superman kept in case he was to busy...they were great standins...reportedly Lois Lane actually preferred one of them in the bedroom ?

I like the old comics...guess IM stuck in the past but comics used to be the top source for fantasy...that was long ago I guess The writing was a lot better as well. My son absolutely loves the Masterworks, we let him count that as reading time especially when he’s doing Roy or Claremont. It's true there's a lot of awesome stuff from the past. But even what they worked on had to have a start and come from somewhere. Mutant Ninja Turtles started as an indy comic put together by two amateur comic fans. Some more relevant perspective here, expanding on the theme of Eric's vid that I posted above: Nobody Wants Original Characters?

The one piece manga just entered the Guiness book or records for selling 500 million copies, the most of any comic ever.
It really shows where people's interests are when the American comic industry can't compete despite being around for almost 100 years.

As far as characters, I like the main character. I'm not really interested in the "spin-offs". I'm talking about all the Robins, all the Ghost Riders, all the Spider-men.
I just want one Spider-man, and that's Peter Parker. I'm only interested in Hal Jordan as the Green Lantern. I only want Johnny Blaze as the Ghost Rider. I don't want some chick to pick up Thor's hammer and effectively be the new Thor. I don't need a She Hulk; the original Bruce Banner Hulk will do. There should be, and I am only interested in, the original Captain America.
And, something that goes hand-in-hand with this is the multi-verse, whether we're talking about DC or Marvel. One universe--our universe--is all I am interested in reading about.

You can do what DC did back in the day to differentiate between Golden Age and Silver Age, or have ONE alternate at a time for a specific story or reason. It has definitely gotten out of hand where they definitely lost the thread along the way.

How many different stories or individual comics have the characters in One Piece been in? Most characters from Marvel and DC, Batman and Spider-Man for example are way over exposed and have had literally hundreds of individual comics published over the decades and have been coming out on a monthly basis for that long as well. They’ve also been licensed out to other media that have made hundreds of millions of dollars (just those two alone). How close does the revenue of licensed films and products from Manga come to that of American comics?

The sales of Graphic Novels have increased recently... Does that have anything to do with dearth of single uses, especially from DC, since the pandemic?

Does that have anything to do with dearth of single uses, especially from DC, since the pandemic? I dunno, I think monthly comics in general are O.K. But the graphic novels sales have increased a fair deal. I'd imagine it is just the sales figures from the direct market and book scan below - I doubt the figures include sales at Amazon and the rest of the book market:
What is the breakdown for those trades? From what I understand the comic industry has started counting manga sales along with their own to make the numbers look better than they are. In other words, there is an increase in manga sales while a drop in American comic trades, but overall the total sales numbers are higher.
I could be wrong, but if true that just shows they are being beaten badly in their own home turf.

I didn't know that graphic novels and trades already outsell individual comics.
I've never really been a single issue guy. I always wait for the trade. And, now, I'm reading more and more omnibuses, when available.

It's probably low on his list of things to do, but how long until the new Warner-Discovery CEO just tells DC to stop producing new comics and focus on reprints?

I think it was Midnight's Edge who made a similar point recently. Andre said that Zaslav was refocusing the reset DCEU on the top three characters, who are so well known in pop culture around the world that the comics are in a sense no longer needed. Alternatively he may well reset the whole comics line too.

One other thing I just remembered and wanted to add, apparently the best selling trades that are not Manga are all coming from companies like Scholastic and are not superhero stuff. Not sure if these numbers take that into consideration, but it makes DC and Marvel sales look even worse.

I dunno if the Scholastic figures are included. But, one thing for certain, Marvel have expanded their Omnibus line and even started reprinting the Marvel Masterworks stuff. The interest in collections has definitely increased. I'm not saying they can challenge the likes of Manga and the books available through Scholastic, but there is an increased interest in Marvel collections and if they could be bothered to collect them, even the DC stuff.
