Browsed some physical copies of Manga yesterday.
One of them was Goblin Slayer. The other few had weird titles impossible to remember.
My impression is that these are very cookie-cutter mass produced all with the same foundational formula, just different coats of paint. Even the art style seemed indistinguishable even though the books appeared to be from different creative teams. Something that A.I. would generate. Not to get stereotypical, but I imagine the appeal of these is for people who want to remain in a "safe zone" knowing ahead of time what they are getting with little deviation in their media. They probably also like the idea that they are taking a step toward something exotic in the form of a different country generating it.
Not interested at all and never will be.
Is the Berserk series considered manga?

Is the Berserk series considered manga? Definitely. And it's one of the best known series as well.
Just as for comic books, there is a lot of dull stuff and then there is good stuff in manga.

I think you would have enjoyed Goblin Slayer. It's full of violence and T&A. Basically the goblins are the disease, and the world is the body. They're little killers and rapists that the main character hates, and he's devoted his existence to exterminating them. There's a Goblin Slayer anime, but it's toned down from the manga: I believe Goblin Slayer started out as a light novel, then was adapted into a manga, and finally an anime. Oh, yeah. But it's not published weekly. As a matter of fact, neither is Goblin Slayer, so the art in both is a bit more detailed than your average weekly manga aimed at young boys that have that similar style you pointed out. I recommend checking out either the Berserk manga or start with the 1990's anime that they played at midnight in Japan when it aired. It's dark fantasy.

If we're recommending anime, there's not many I like, but these three are my favorites:
Wolf's Rain
Witch Hunter Robin
FLCL (This one's totally off the wall)

Something I don't see mentioned here enough is the fact that superhero comics nowadays mostly get released along with the current movies or TV shows and if you're not a fan of these there is little to no interest to buy new comics now.

I was at my LCS to pick up my issues of Gargoyles, Tarzan, and Death Dealer today. I apologized to the clerk for not getting as many books as I used to, but there just aren't enough interesting titles out there.
He told me he understood and said the cover prices alone are killing walk-in sales off the street.
A sad state of affairs.

I miss the days when I could walk into the comic shop with $20 in hand, and come out with almost that many books. Not to mention the time to read em.

Yeah, lucky if you pick up more than 4 comics in the UK for £20 these days.
Thank Crom for the back issues.

So, you may have heard the big news from Marvel: The Punisher is no more. That's right. Marvel was uncomfortable with the kind of people who would want to read about Frank Castle, so they've been systematically dismantling him. He gave up his guns (of course), his super-problematic skull emblem was replaced with a not-at-all problematic demon emblem and then his dead wife was resurrected, taking away his motive for having started the fight to begin with. Oh, and she wanted a divorce just before she was murdered. And she wants to divorce him now that she came back to life (I'm no lawyer, but wouldn't years of death qualify as an end to the marriage?). So she takes all his stuff and leaves him with nothing, not even a reason to go on. What a loser, huh?
But the even bigger loser is anybody who had the nerve to ever read this character in the first place. Bad reader, baaaaad reader! Fortunately, Marvel can always find a new, better audience because the readership for the Big Two publishers is bigger and stronger than ever. Otherwise this might seem like a terrible idea.

Death and eventual resurrection is all they can seem to come up with these days. I remember when a death , Uncle Ben , Gwen , Mar-vell really meant something *sigh*

They couldn't even let him go down in a blaze of glory, saving people from terrorists? He could have then been reunited with his wife in paradise. Perfect ending.

That sounds ridiculously terrible. He's been neutered. This isn't the first (or second...or third) time he's died or gone away, though, so we'll see.
