Edgar Rice Burroughs, The Mucker - Ace, 1974 Frazetta in his prime. With a little longer hair, it could be a great Conan painting. Ironic, since REH owned the original ERB edition and The Mucker likely influenced the creation of Conan. Yeah, I agree. This could have been a great Conan painting. There is a lot of Conan there in the eyes and the expression on his face.

Death Dealer UnmaskedFrank said: “If this thing takes off, then the fans will want to see him. You can’t have him with his helmet on all the time. At some point the mystery has to end. I wanted to have the Death Dealer as a no-nonsense no-bullshit kind of guy. A hero with very strong features, sunken eyes, prominent cheekbones, just very strong features…hard, intense, intimidating. This is a guy who will kick your ass at a moment’s notice, like a jungle cat seeing his prey and IMMEDIATELY pouncing. No holding back…pure animal intensity. I only did the one drawing. It turned out pretty nice. I was happy with it.”link fritzfrazetta.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/frazettas-death-dealer-unmasked.html

A rarity not often seen, Frank did very little traditional super-hero work, but he did produce this one Superman watercolor to celebrate Superman's 50th anniversary that was auctioned off last year... from the auction article... I think another forgotten side of Frank's work were the movie poster work he did such as the monster parad ein this composite movie poster for Fearless Vampire Killers... that madcap parade motif was used often in his movie poster work in the 60s-70s such as this one for Bsy Body... yet it retained a touch of the macabre, especially in the far background of the parade. But the lighthearted merriment of the romp is still the primary focus and the centerpiece of others such as this one for Hotel Paradisio... As much as I love Frank's fantasy work (and Frazettaa sits atop my pantheon of creators), I think he showed the depth of his talent, the range of his vision and a little touch of his humanity when he stepped outside the genre and did stuff like this. -M

I picked up this issue of Blazing Combat magazine (published by Warren Publishing in 1965/1966) with a Frazetta cover today... as well as some other stuff that might be of interest to S&S fans... -M
