I was surprised at some of the anti-pastiche comments that were posted there. Not sure where those are coming from. HAJ has already made it very clear that this run of Howard inspired fiction is going to be closely monitored for quality and correctness; it’s gotta stay close to the source material. It’s not gonna be a free for all for every wannabe writer who figures they can whip up a barbarian adventure for a quick buck ( that means I’m out of the picture!). I don’t think it’ll be a veritable flood of new books like the peak of the Tor years, where quality was bound to slip here and there. I’m also hoping that authors will be able to explore and expand upon various other REH characters that need to see the limelight; Solomon Kane, El Borak, Cormac (both of ‘em) Bran and James Allison.

I guess the expansion into the other REH characters will depend on the success of the Conan books. I'd expect some kind of advertising in the Marvel comics considering the inclusion of Conan/Hyborian Age Novellas in all 3 Conan books.

Will potentially help some of the more reluctant readers out there to make the transition into reading pure prose. Scott's premise for the novella sounds cool. Hope this eventually finds it's way into a book collating these shorter yarns too at some later date.

i will buy Hocking’s long awaited “Conan And The Living Plague” sap. “Conan And The Emerald Lotus” is 1 of my top 3 conan fic tales. Great Hocking stuff. == i am not really interested in any Belit extensive origins /back story. previous attempts have been very poor and not engaged me. Like conan, a belit origins is not needed. [ comics like 'origins' so they can drag /spin out any old crudd for months?] Stackpoles belit will need great reviews to get my attention. >>>> i would be more interested in short tales about CONAN with BELIT [ their adventures before her final greedy death. they probably spent a few action packed years together? ] if these keen publishers continue with long novels they might not get much business from me? i want collections of intense new short stories, PLEASE? swords & sorcery weird horror is best enjoyed in short tales. Thanks for the info updates. [ roll on april ]

Stackpole did a pretty good job on the novelization to the 2011 movie. He extended the beginning and brought in Conan's grandfather--an entire section that wasn't in the film.
I would have liked to see him elaborate on Khalar Zym and Marique, though. That stuff was as thin as the in the movie.

Stackpole did a excellent job on the Conan novelization, and I think he will do a worthy job with Belit's story. I agree with Bux that the early adventures with Belit AND Conan would be more fun to read, but it would be tough for any writer to compete directly with the classic Queen of the Black Coast.

I'll be ordering those as soon as I can. I still have my Tor edition of Emerald Lotus, but I may buy it again just to show the publishers there is an interest in more Conan.

That's above and beyond the call of dog brotherhood.
Back when Perilous Worlds decided to re-print Emerald Lotus, editor Howard Andrew Jones suggested that I write a short story, a sequel-of-sorts that might be included in the book to add a little value and maybe tempt some of those who already had a yellowing copy of Emerald Lotus on their shelves into buying it again. A pretty good idea, but it didn't work out that way.
I was working on that when I got the call to provide a novella to be serialized in Marvel's new Conan the Barbarian comic. Black Starlight, the 18,000 word Conan yarn appearing in the comic magazine in monthly installments, is that story. It's a direct follow-up to Conan and the Emerald Lotus and I hope anyone who has fond memories of the novel checks it out.

Hey, what's a few £/$ to help the cause. Even if just ends up in my collection it's worth it.

With a bit of luck both yours and Scott's novellas will later be collected and published in book form as well.
