After reading the entirety of his Last Kingdom Series (hoping he has more on the way), this man deserves a thread all of his own. This motherf*cker can flat out write! I just started reading the first novel in his Warlord Chronicles (historical King Arthur) trilogy this afternoon and it's fantastic.
I'm not much for gunpowder, but I'm seeing a lot of high praise for his Sharpe series of novels, too.
Is anyone else on the board a fan?
I figured I would break this off from the Last Kingdom TV series in an effort to focus on his literary work.

Yes, I've always enjoyed his work, particularly the Sharpe novels. Maybe it's time for a new Waterloo movie a la Cornwell?

I read the Warlord Chronicles, damn, over a decade ago now. I remember liking them a lot.

Don't let the gunpowder put you off: the Sharpe series is one of the classics of historical military fiction. Hell, pretty much everything Cornwell writes is gold.

I should probably give it a try, especially when the first audio book is currently on sale. I enjoyed Tony Scott's "The Duelists" a great deal and that was during the Napoleonic Era...had just the right amount of gunpowder.

Bernard Cornwall’s Warlord Chronicles are a great read. Uhtred of Bebbanburg from the Saxon stories is a pretty good protagonist too. Haven’t read much else though. The BBC have made a TV show called the Last Kingdom. I think that the first two seasons have covered up to the end of book 4. It’s not bad at all and though there are a few costume and equipment inaccuracies, it’s nowhere near the level of Saxons wearing Burgonets from the Vikings show.

The Joseph Conrad short story that inspired the film is also worth a read. ...... Ah, you're right it was indeed Sir Ridley. I'll have to check out that short story, too. I think my reading order is going to be: Warlord Chronicles --> Agincourt --> The Grail Quest Quadrology --> Sharpe Series

If you started with Stonehenge and went through the Warlord Chronicles and the Saxon Chronicles, to the Grail Quest, Fools and Mortals and Sharpe, Cornwell tells the story of Britain from prehistory to the near-present.
