Seems slightly odd there isn't a dedicated video games thread, so I thought maybe I should make one?
On the topic of S&S games specifically, one of the standouts I played recently is Slain: Back From Hell. Just a traditional hack-and-slash game with wonderfully gritty artwork. It's basically like you're playing a death metal album cover, which the game acknowledges by allowing you to hit a button after clearing a level that makes your guy start windmilling. Puts up a good challenge but isn't too frustrating if you're into these sorts of games.

I thought Slain looked pretty good. I might give it a go if I see it on sale. I've playing a lot of retro/retro-style games recently. I've just started playing Volgarr the Viking, which is very much is the style of Rastan or Ghosts 'n' Goblins and also takes after them in difficulty. It's fun in a masochistic kind of way. My current ambition is just to complete the first level.

I need to circle back to Volgarr. I think I had cleared the first couple of levels when my previous computer had a meltdown, but I was impressed by it in that Rastan way.
Yeah, Slain had a pretty disastrous launch in which it had a lot of bugs but they polished it up and released the "Back From Hell" edition, which is much better.
Another one I played last year that I found very impressive is Odallus. It's got a dark Highlander meets Berserk vibe to it.
