This sounds awesome, but once again way too much. Why not a paperback omnibus for $25? $90 is a little steep, in my opinion. But maybe that’s just me...

That's the Haffner Press model - they are set more for the collectible market, though they might have done a trade pb or two in the past.

On the plus side, if you buy a Haffner book, you can usually count on it increasing in value if you take care of it. For more plebeian/affordable Wellman editions, Shadowridge is the way to go: www.amazon.com/Worse-Things-Waiting-Manly-Wellman/dp/1946808989Let's just say that one shouldn't rule out more Wellman coming from Shadowridge, either.

I've already paid Haffner $85.00 for the Complete IV Frost and the Book of Stark. I'd love to preorder the John the Balladeer volumes and the Robert Bloch vampire tales collection but I'd like to see him deliver or at least give an update on what's taking so long with the two I already ordered. Especially IV Frost, it's been years since I preordered that.
If you didn't pay up front it wouldn't be an issue.

Saw this listed on a bookseller's site. Sounds interesting:
To Unknown Lands. Holiday House, 1956. First edition hardback, VG- with soft head and bump at heel, some slight general wear to boards, and the faint trace of what appears to be a beverage ring to the front boards themselves, otherwise sound but, alas, lacking the dj. Normally I wouldn't carry a jacket-less book like this, but it's one of the rarest of Wellman's YA historical novels, following the adventures (based very loosely on a few snippets of historical fact) of an Englishmen and an Irishman left behind from Columbus' expedition to the new world. $4.

Based on the recommendation here I picked up Worse Things Waiting and enjoyed it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Based on years of hearing only good things about Manly Wade Wellman, especially his "Silver John" tales, I've been on the lookout for an affordable copy. It's a crying shame that you almost can't find any John book out there for under $50, and it's not uncommon to find it soaring higher than that.
But I've been persistent and have continued to keep an eye out to see if any new editions hit the shelves or any old editions dropped in price. By some miracle, just the other day, I was able to purchase a copy of "Who Fears the Devil" for...get this...$3. I had to pay international shipping for $8, bringing it up to $11, but obviously it was well worth it. Not sure if the bookseller knew every other copy was being sold at outrageous prices or if they just didn't care.

Some things I used to pick up for cover price or a little more are expensive as you note.

Just discovered him earlier this year while reding my Hellboy comics and he was quoted as an influence on one of the stories.

Nearly done with "Who Fears the Devil?" and it's more than lived up to the hype!

Was watching the old tv show Monsters on tubi the other day and caught the epsiode based on Wellman's "Rouse Him Not", not the best thing ever but it's got Alex Cord as John Thunston and a monster, not bad for 20 minutes entertainment.
